LLB Syllabus 2026 in Pakistan: 5 Year, HEC 4 Year, PU and BZU

New students follow HEC’s 4-year, 8-semester LLB (at least 146 credit hours). Students admitted earlier follow a 5-year scheme, which at Punjab University (PU) is either the old annual system or, from session 2023-24, a 10-semester system. HEC’s law curriculum committee gave in-principle approval to the four-year degree in May 2025. The committee included a Pakistan Bar Council member.

Not sure which PU version is yours? PU’s own supplementary date sheets list papers under “old course,” “new course 2022” and “new course 2023.” Look up your papers on the PU LLB date sheet, or ask your department.

Eligibility: BZU asks for at least 45% in HSSC Part I (or A-Levels) and at least 50% in the Law Admission Test (LAT). PU’s 5-year semester notification asked for 55% in F.A./F.Sc., the PU admission test and an age of 24 or under. PU’s 4-year rules may differ, so check the latest notice on the LLB eligibility criteria page.

HEC 4-year LLB

HEC’s 4-year LLB runs for at least eight regular semesters and is capped at 148 credit hours. The credits break down like this:

• General education: 35
• Major courses: 93 (75 core and 18 specialisation electives)
• Interdisciplinary courses: 12
• Internship: 3
• Capstone project: 3

That gives a minimum of 146 credit hours. Each university arranges the semesters its own way. The official HEC curriculum PDF lists the learning outcomes for every core course.

Example: PU’s 4-year LLB (147 credit hours)

PU’s curriculum (reference D-6108/Acad, dated 25-09-2026) follows HEC’s 2025 curriculum. Here are its law courses by semester:

The six electives are Media Law, International Human Rights Law, Medical and Forensic Law, AI and Law, Taxation Law and International Trade Law. Other universities offer different electives, so compare options on the universities offering LLB page and check fees before you apply.

The 5-year LLB under HEC’s framework

Most universities that still run the 5-year degree follow HEC’s 10-semester structure of 166 credit hours:

• 28 credits of compulsory courses
• 24 credits of general and foundation courses
• 102 credits of major courses, including research or internship
• 12 credits of electives

Punjab University 5-year LLB

Annual system: older outline (3,000 marks)

The older scheme differs mainly in the first two years, and its Part I and II papers are partly non-law subjects:

• Part IV (700): Constitutional Law-II, Equity, Mercantile Law, Transfer of Property, Muslim Personal Law, Public International Law, Special and Local Laws
• Part V (700): Civil Procedure, Criminal Procedure and Medical Jurisprudence, Evidence and Ethics, Legal Drafting, Administrative Law, Minor Acts, Labour and Taxation

BZU LLB syllabus (Multan)

Gillani Law College at Bahauddin Zakariya University lists the LL.B (4-Year) programme for undergraduates. Admission needs at least 45% in HSSC Part I or A-Levels and at least 50% in the LAT. Merit is 30% matric and 70% HSSC Part I, with 20 extra marks for a Hifz-e-Quran certificate.

BZU’s page doesn’t publish a subject list. Use the BZU prospectus or call the department. For revision, try BZU LLB past papers.

Where the marks are: how to study smart

PU’s 2022-23 outline splits marks inside several papers, which tells you where to spend your time:

• Constitutional Law-II: 60 marks for the 1973 Constitution, 20 for constitutional history, 20 for landmark cases
• Transfer of Property: four Acts, split 40, 20, 20 and 20
• Mercantile Law: 60 for company law, 20 each for partnership and negotiable instruments
• Equity: 40 for maxims, 40 for the Specific Relief Act, 20 for the Trust Act
• Evidence and Ethics: 80 for Qanoon-e-Shahadat Order 1984, 20 for ethics
• Legal Drafting: 40 conveyancing, 40 pleading, 20 interpretation of statutes
