LLB course fee 2026 in Pakistan: PU exam fees, LAT fee Rs 1,800, sample college fees and how 4-year and 5-year LLB costs are worked out

There is no single LLB course fee in Pakistan. What you pay depends on the college, on whether it is public or private, and on how many years the programme runs. A few charges are fixed. The Higher Education Commission (HEC) Law Admission Test (LAT) costs Rs 1,800. At the University of the Punjab (PU), annual exam forms cost Rs 13,640 to Rs 21,250 depending on the part. College tuition is the big variable.

What the LLB fee includes

Most confusion comes from mixing four different charges:

  1. LAT fee. You pay it to HEC once per sitting, before you apply anywhere.
  2. Admission and one-time charges. These cover admission, lab or development fees and refundable deposits. At International Islamic University Islamabad (IIU), one-time charges of Rs 16,500 are added to the first semester. They include a Rs 7,000 refundable library deposit.
  3. Tuition. This is the largest cost and is charged per semester or per year.
  4. University exam or enrolment fees. Some universities charge these separately from tuition. Affiliated colleges often collect them for the university.

Hostel, books and transport are extra.

LLB fee structure in Pakistan: public vs private colleges

Public universities usually charge much less than private ones, but their merit lines are higher. Private colleges and universities charge more, and premium campuses charge far more. Some also run their own entry test in addition to the LAT.

Published figures are hard to compare because some are per semester, some per year and some for the whole programme. Third-party guides quote ranges for private colleges, but these are estimates and not official fee schedules. The table below states what each figure covers.

Examples of published LLB fees

Institution Programme Published amount What it covers
IIU Islamabad LLB (5 years) Rs 113,220 First semester: Rs 96,720 semester fee plus Rs 16,500 one-time charges (FY 2026-27, Pakistani students)
IIU Islamabad BA LLB (Hons) Shariah & Law Rs 53,800 First semester: Rs 37,300 plus Rs 16,500 one-time charges

Punjab University LLB fee structure 2026

PU’s 2026 annual exam fees are fixed by its Controller of Examinations:

LLB Part Fee
Part I (late college candidates only) and Part II Rs 13,640
Part III and Part IV Rs 15,250
Part V Rs 15,250 plus Rs 6,000 degree fee, a total of Rs 21,250

These are university exam-form fees. Your college tuition is separate. Forms are accepted online only, and PU has extended its submission dates more than once, so check the current notification on pu.edu.pk. PU’s own law tuition should be confirmed in its current prospectus, because published figures differ between sources.

For entry requirements, see PU LLB admission and the LLB eligibility criteria.

4-year or 5-year LLB: how duration changes the cost

The LLB is moving from five years to four. The Supreme Court reportedly ordered the reduction in June 2025. Several universities now list a four-year LLB of 146 credit hours over at least eight semesters. Some programmes, including older cohorts and some Hons or external degrees, still run longer.

If you are looking for the 5-year LLB fee structure, check each admission notice for the programme length. A fee per semester multiplied by 8 semesters is not the same as the same fee multiplied by 10. Ask for the total number of semesters in writing.

LAT fee and other costs

Every applicant to a recognised LLB programme must pass the LAT with at least 50 marks out of 100. The fee is Rs 1,800. Register on the HEC Education Testing Council (ETC) portal. You then pay with the 1Link/1Bill consumer number it generates and select “Verify Online Payment” on your dashboard.

Registration for the final 2026 sitting closes on 20 October 2026. The test is tentatively set for 15 November 2026. Confirm dates on the LAT test schedule and the LAT fee page before you pay.

Other costs to plan for include law books (see our recommended LLB books), hostel fees and transport. IIU, for example, lists hostel fees separately from tuition.

How to work out your total cost

Use this formula:

(Semester fee × number of semesters) + one-time charges + exam fees + LAT fee + living costs

The first semester usually costs more than later ones. At IIU’s LLB, the first semester is Rs 113,220 because the Rs 16,500 one-time charge applies once. Later semesters carry the Rs 96,720 semester fee only.

Ask each college these questions:

  • Is the quoted fee per semester, per year or for the whole programme?
  • Which charges are one-time and which are refundable?
  • Are exam and enrolment fees included?
  • How much do fees rise each year?
  • Is there an instalment plan or lump-sum discount?

How to reduce the cost of an LLB

Public and university-constituent colleges are the cheapest route, but they need a strong merit position. Some colleges offer instalments or discounts. City Law College’s published schedule, for example, includes a 10% concession for lump-sum payment. Ask about scholarships and concessions before you pay your first challan, and compare options on the LLB admissions page so you apply where you can afford the full programme.

Check eligibility before you budget

To sit the LAT, you need an HSSC or an equivalent 12-year qualification. Students waiting for their result can also apply. To qualify for admission, you must score at least 50 marks in the LAT. Minimum intermediate marks depend on the university. PU asks for 55%, while some others accept 45% or 50%. See the LAT eligibility criteria and the LLB eligibility page before you shortlist colleges.
