To get LLB admission in Pakistan in 2026, you need an Intermediate or equivalent qualification, a pass in the HEC Law Admission Test (LAT), and an application to a recognised university or law college before its own deadline. For new admissions, the LLB is now a four-year programme. The next LAT is tentatively set for 15 November 2026, and registration on the HEC portal closes on 20 October 2026.
Each university publishes its own form, fee and merit rules, so there is no single national last date. This guide covers what is common across institutions, what changes from one to another, and what to check before you pay any fee.

HEC notified a revised four-year LLB curriculum on 10 July 2025, effective from Fall 2025, after consultation with the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) and the Directorate of Legal Education. The programme runs for a minimum of eight regular semesters. The earlier five-year structure followed a Supreme Court judgment from 2019, which is why you will still see “5 Year” in some older notices and in programme titles such as BA LLB (Hons).
Read each admission notice for the programme length and confirm that the institution is recognised before you apply. Admission to the old three-year LLB for graduates was stopped under the PBC’s Legal Education Rules, 2015, following a Supreme Court judgment, so notices that mention it are out of date.
Universities set their own dates. In 2026, Sindh Muslim Government Law College in Karachi accepted fall-session LLB forms from 13 July to 27 July. Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto University of Law set 3 August as the last date for online forms, with classes starting on 7 September.
Spring-session notices have typically appeared from December to February. International Islamic University Islamabad, for example, posted a notice in December 2025 with a 31 December closing date.Because deadlines are short, often under two weeks, the safest approach is to hold a valid LAT score before the notice appears. The notice table on this page is updated as universities announce intakes.
The common baseline is an Intermediate (FA, FSc, ICS, I.Com), A-Level or equivalent certificate, plus a LAT score of at least 50. Beyond that, minimum marks and merit weightings differ by university. Recent examples:
Check the prospectus for the university’s own merit formula and any extra conditions. The full LLB eligibility criteria guide lists more details by programme.
The Law Admission Test is conducted by HEC’s Education Testing Council (ETC) and is compulsory for LLB admission in HEC- and PBC-recognised institutions. HEC holds it several times a year, with five sessions scheduled in 2026.
The next LAT is tentatively scheduled for 15 November 2026. Online registration is open until 20 October 2026 through etc.hec.gov.pk. A saved or incomplete application is not counted as submitted, so complete every step, including fee payment, before the closing date. Roll number slips are sent by email about a week before the test.
Candidates who have already passed may sit again to improve their score. HEC’s calendar lists 16 October 2026 as the result date for the 6 September test, and results for the 15 November test are scheduled for 24 December 2026. If a university’s deadline falls before your result, ask whether it accepts a later result. For the full eligibility rules and the HEC LAT test guide, see the LAT eligibility criteria and the HEC LAT test pages. The LAT registration process page walks through the portal steps.
LAT carries 100 marks, and you need at least 50 to pass. The paper has 75 multiple-choice questions covering English, general knowledge, Islamic studies, Pakistan studies, Urdu and mathematics, plus a 25-mark written section with an essay and a personal statement. Treat 50 as the minimum for eligibility, not a target. A pass does not guarantee a seat, because public-sector merit lists are competitive.
Check that the university or law college is recognised by the PBC and HEC.
If your Intermediate result is still pending, apply only if the notice explicitly allows provisional admission.
The PBC has warned that people who join unauthorised institutions will not be regularised and will not be entitled to enrol as advocates. Check the PBC’s list of recognised LLB programmes and HEC’s recognised campuses before paying any fee. Our list of LLB colleges and universities shows institutions with city and programme details.
Law admissions at the University of the Punjab and its affiliated colleges are announced by the university and follow the LAT rule. Dates are published on pu.edu.pk, and our Punjab University LLB admission guide tracks them. Other widely searched options include GCU, UMT, UCP, IIU, LUMS and Sindh Muslim Government Law College. Each sets its own forms, seats and merit.
Fees differ between public and private institutions and are stated in each prospectus. The LLB fee structure guide compares them. If you want to know where a law degree leads, see LLB jobs, or read about the LLB Hons degree programme and LLB admissions in Rawalpindi.
It depends on the university. In 2026, fall-session notices closed in July and August, and spring-session notices have typically appeared from December to February. Check the notice table on this page and the university website.
There is no single date. Sindh Muslim Government Law College closed on 27 July 2026 and SZABUL on 3 August 2026. The LAT registration for the 15 November test closes on 20 October 2026.
Yes. HEC’s LAT is compulsory for LLB admission in HEC- and PBC-recognised institutions, and the minimum pass mark is 50 out of 100.
The next LAT is tentatively scheduled for 15 November 2026, with registration on etc.hec.gov.pk until 20 October 2026. Any change will be announced by HEC.
New admissions from Fall 2025 are on a four-year programme under HEC’s revised curriculum. The three-year LLB is not offered for new admissions, and five-year titles still appear in some older notices.
You need an Intermediate or equivalent qualification and a LAT score of at least 50. Minimum marks vary; recent notices ask for 45% to 50%, so confirm with the university.
Confirm the institution is recognised, pass LAT, apply on the university’s online portal with your documents and fee, then follow the merit list and deposit your admission fee on time.
Check the PBC’s list of recognised LLB programmes and HEC’s recognised campuses. The PBC has said admissions in unauthorised institutions will not qualify for advocate enrolment.
Punjab University announces law admissions on its own website, and LAT applies. Check pu.edu.pk for the current notice and deadline before applying.
