University of Sargodha was inaugurated in 2002 by the ordinance of Government of Pakistan. It was termed as the Government College, Sargodha and its first Vice Chancellor was Riaz ul Haq Tariq from 2002 to 2007. Sargodha University has several campuses functioning at different locations. The campuses are located at Bhakkar, Mianwali are working under Public Sector while MandiBahauddin, Gujranwala, Layyah and Faisalabad Women's campus in Faisalabad are functioning under Public Private Partnership. University is also planning to start another campus in Layyah. Since the inauguration it has maintained its standard.
