People who have the desire to obtain a law degree now have a chance to do so at any age since they can submit the application at any time since the condition of session gap has been removed by the Academic Council of the Punjab University in its LLB course.
Earlier there was a limit of the gap between a session of five years in completing intermediate education other than being limited to a few years. The Board of Studies in the university had already made recommendations to the effect of doing away with this restriction and all that is left to be done is to have the decision finally accepted by the Syndicate of the university.
Punjab University Law College always required students to take law after studying intermediate education. To their disappointment, however, many potential applicants, in particular the ones who are getting back to school later in life could not enroll because of the session gap policy.
To ensure a greater accessibility to the legal education, the Board of Studies suggested the elimination of session gap provided the broader spectrum of students to get the LLB no matter what period they took to conclude the previous education.
Also, Higher Education Commission (HEC) has restructured the LLB Honours programme and brought the duration down to four years, as opposed to its five-year predecessor.
The change in policy will give opportunity to many others who have already been denied entry to legal education because of strict admission requirements.
