Question # 1

Photoelectric effect give the evidence of the particle nature of light,Explain it how?

Ans 1: If light were simple a wave like phenomena ,then increasing the intensity and thereby increasing the total energy failing on the surface would be expected to eventually provide enough energy to release electron no matter what the frequency .Furthermore in the classical picture one would expect the maximum energy of the emitted electrons to depend on the intensity of light--but it does not.So this is evidence that light behaves as if it were a particle.

What is back motor effect in generators?

Ans 1: Back motor effect is the opposing torque produced due to the induced emf in the coil.When coil rotated a current is drawn through the coil.The magnetic field exerts two equal and opposite forces on left and right side of the current carrying coil,These forces are such that they produce a counter torque that oppose the rotational motion of the coil.This effect is known as back motor effect in generators.

Define ammeter and voltmeter.

Ans 1: An ammeter is an electrical instrument which is used to measure current in amperes.
A voltmeter is an electrical device which measure the potential difference in volts between two points.

Question # 4

Define Stopping potential and Threshold frequency.

Ans 1: Stopping potential:The stopping potential is the potential difference applied to stop the electrons from being ejected from the surface when the light fall on it.
Threshold frequency:The minimum of frequency of incident light at which electrons are emitted from a surface is called threshold frequency.

What is choke?

Ans 1: It is a coil of thick copper wire wound closely over soft iron laminated cores,It is used in AC circuits to limited current with extremely small wastage of energy as compare to a resistance .

Why a transformer can not work on DC input supply? Explain

Ans 1: Since a transformer work on the principle of mutual induction and direct current can not induce emf as in mutual induction,So a transformer can not work on DC supply input supply.

Question # 7

Give the statement of Gauss's law.

Ans 1: It states that the total electric flux through any closed surface is equal to 1/e_otimes the total charged encloses in it.

Question # 8

State Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction.

Ans 1: It states that
"The average emf induced in a conducting coil of N loops is equal to the negative of the rate at which the magnetic flux through the coil is changing with time".

Define nuclear fission.

Ans 1: Such a reaction in which a heavy nucleus like that of uranium splits up into two nuclei of roughly equal size along with the emission of energy is called fission reaction.

Define absorbed dose and Gray.

Ans 1: Absorbed dose:It is defined as the amount of energy absorbed from an ionizing radiation per unit mass of the absorbing body i.e.
Absorbed dose=energy/mass
Gray: it is defined as the amount of energy equal to one joule absorbed by a body of mass 1kg i.e
gray=1 joule/1 kg

Define decay constant.

Ans 1: Decay constant of any element is to the fraction of the decaying atoms per unit time.

Electric lines of force never cross why?

Ans 1: Electric lines of force never cross each other,This is because that electric field line has only one direction at any given point.If the lines cross ,electric field lines could have more than one direction which is not possible.

Question # 13

Is it possible to obtain an isolated north pole?Give reason.

Ans 1: No,the source of magnetism of an atom is the electrons,Accepting this view of magnetism it is concluded that it is possible to obtain an isolated north pole,The north pole is merely one side of a current loop.The other side will always be present as south pole and these can not be separated.This is an experimental reality.

Does the total flux depend upon the shape or geometry of the closed surface?

Ans 1: No,the total flux does not depend upon the shape or geometry of the closed surface,It depends upon medium and charge enclosed.

Question # 15

What is fluorescence?

Ans 1: Fluorescence is a property of absorbing radiant energy of high frequency and re emitting energy of low frequency in the visible region of electromagnetic spectrum.

Question # 16

Give two postulate of special theory of relativity.

Ans 1: Postulate of special theory of relativity are states as
1. The laws of physics are the same in all inertial frames.
2. The speed of light in free space has the same value for all observes,regardless of their state of motion.

Question # 17

Can an object move with the speed of light?

Ans 1: As an object approaches the speed of light,its masses rises abruptly.If an object tries to travel 186,000 miles per seconds,its mass become infinite and so does the energy required to move it, For this reasons ,no normal object can be travel as fast as or faster than the speed of light.

Question # 18

State uncertainty principle.

Ans 1: The product of uncertainty in the measurement of momentum and uncertainty in the measurement of position of an electron is approximately equal to Planck's constant.
The product of uncertainty in the measurement of energy and uncertainty in the measurement of time of an electron is approximately equal to Planck's constant.

Question # 19

Write two properties of RLC series circuit.

Ans 1:
1. The impedance of the circuit at resonance is minimum and equal to R.
2. The power factor of RLC series circuit is 1.

Question # 20

Describe a brief account of interaction of various types of radiations with matter.

Ans 1:
1. An a particle has well defined range in a medium ,before coming to rest which is called range if a-particle.
2. It lose its energy due to excitation and ionization of atoms and molecules in matter.
Ans 2: b-particle:
1. The ionizing ability of b particles is about 100 times less than that of a alpha particle.
2. The range of b particle is 100 times more than that of a- particle.
