Blood passes through one side of membrane and dialysis fluid from other side. The waste and excess water pass from the blood through the membrane into the dialysing fluid.
  • Ans 2: Peritoneal dialysis: work on same principle except abdomen has a peritoneal cavity, lined by a thin epithelium called peritoneum. Peritonial cavity is filled with dialysis fluid that enters the body through a catheter. Excess water and wastes pass through the peritoneum into the dialysing fluid.
