Ans 1: U.S.A ranks third in cotton production in the world, but until 1980 it was at the top in cotton production, it accounts for 9.5 percent cotton output of the globe. In the initial years, north eastern region was more important, but now south-west of the Mississippi river enjoys the overwhelming superiority in cotton cultivation. The U.S.A cotton belt stretches' from northern Florida to north Carolina and westward of California.

Ans 1: In the world cotton market, Australia, U.S.A, Egypt, Sudan, Uzbekistan, Turkey, Brazil, Greece, Syria, Turkmenistan, Mali, Argentina and Mexico are leading exporters of cotton in the world.

Although China, India and Pakistan are big producers of cotton lent, but they mostly export cotton cloth and fabrics in the international market.

Ans 1: Cotton is most important cash crop and is grown over large area. Fertile soils and excellent irrigation system of Indus basin has provided best environmental conditions for cotton cultivation. Today, Pakistan is fourth largest cotton producing country in the world. Irrigated districts of Punjab and Sindh are major cotton producing areas in Pakistan. Punjab produces 73.6 percent while Sindh produces 25.6 percent cotton production of the Pakistan.

In the Punjab, central and southern districts, while northern district of Sindh are important for cotton cultivation, In the economy of Pakistan cotton plays a vital role because our more than 60 percent exports are met by cotton, cotton cloth and its fabrics.

Ans 1: India is second largest country in cotton production. India produces about 26.2 percent cotton production of the world. In India, southern and western states are important for cotton crop. Gujrat province dominate in cotton growing and produces 25 percent cotton of India. Punjab ranks while Maharashtra is third in cotton production. Other important growing states are Rajasthan, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh etc.

Write down climatic conditions required for successful vegetative growth of cotton plant ?

Ans 1: Like all other plants, cotton needs specific environmental conditions and suitable soil texture for better growth. Cotton plants requires 15 degrees to 25 degrees temperature and 180 to 200 sunny days for its best vegetative growth. Dry and warm air is also favorable for cotton plant. During growth period 20 - 50 centimeter (8-20 inches) rainfall is required. In case there is low rainfall, irrigation is needed.
