For rice crop deep clayey loam are best suited. The river plains with fertile silt at the top and an impervious clay bed below are recognized as the best rice fields.

Ans 1: Although there are thousands of varieties of rice but on physical basis, it can be divided into two major groups. i. Upland of Hill Rice: Upland rice is grown on hills and highlands with heavy rainfall. Upland rice account for about 15 percent of world rice production. ii. Lowland/Paddy rice: Lowland rice is a transplanted crop and requires frequent flooding. It must be raised, on level ground suitable for irrigation.

Ans 1: Pakistan is at 13th number in the world in rice production and is prominent country in Basmati rice export in international market. In the Punjab province Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal, Mandi Bahauddin, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur and Okara are major rice producing districts.

In the Sindh Province, districts of Larkana, Dadu, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Badin and Thatta or major rice producing areas.

In Baluchistan province, only Jafarabad and Nasirabad districts are major rice producing districts. Total rice production in Pakistan is more than 7 million metric tonns.

Ans 1: Warm humid climate is required for cultivation of rice crop. High light intensities with sustainable degree of temperature, ranging 21°C to 38°C is required. While for best vegetable growth of rice plant about 45 inches rainfall is required in 18 weaks of its growing period. In areas of moderate rainfall irrigation became necessary.
