With the rapid growing educational needs of students living in Multan region, it becomes necessary to establish a body which could handle all the educational matters of Multan region. So it was decided to set up Multan board in 1968. Since then it is holding matric and inter exams in Multan and its affiliated zones. Ministry of Education handles all the affairs of the board and Lodhran Vehari, Khanewal and Multan.

Earlier BISE Multan was also handling the educational matters of Bahawalpur and Dera Ghazi Khan but later on these two cities got their own board and become BISE Bahawalpur and BISE Dera Ghazi Khan Board. The board organizes exams in a way that every student gets the results according to his or her efforts made in the examination hall. A large number of schools and colleges are affiliated with BISE Multan and students appear in the final and supply exams every year.
