We are in the new Europe, where political freedom moves in concert with the play of human desire. We are listening to the voices of a blind Greek peddler, of Gino, and of Gino's fiancee, Ninon. We follow Ninon's mother in Bratislava, and her father in the South of France, as they begin their separate journeys to the Italian coastal village where Ninon and Gino will wed. And through their journeys, Ninon's story unfolds: how her parents met, the events of her childhood, her first romance, how she fell in love with Gino, then rejected Gino's love, and how she was finally won over by him to marriage. On her wedding day Ninon will kick off her shoes and dance forever with Gino as the band strikes up Last Friday Drives Monday Crazy. This is the story of a wedding such as could only take place at the end of our century.
