NOTE: Answer any NINE part questions from this section. All questions carry equal marks. Draw diagrams where necessary. Use of scientific calculator is allowed.

i) A 100 gram bullet is fired into a 12 kg block which is suspended by a long card so that it can swing as a pendulum. If bullet is embedded in the block and centre of gravity of the block is rised by 10 cm, what was the speed of bullet?

ii) A tank 4m long, 3m wide and 2m deep is filled completely with water. Calculate the pressure on the base of the (density of water = 1000kg/m³).

iii) A proton of charge 1. 6 × 10-19C is situated in a uniform electric field of intensity 1200 V/m. Find force on it.

iv) A satellite is orbiting the earth with an orbital velocity 3200 m/s. What is orbital radius? ( G = 6.67 × 10-11Nm³/ kg2, mass of earth = 5.98 × 1024 kg )

v) When an object is thrown upward, it rises to a height 'h'. How high is the object in terms of 'h', when it has lost one third of its original kinetic energy.

vi) For an inclined plane, derive relation between angle of frictions and angle of repose.

vii) What capacitance is required to store energy of 3.6 × 107J at a potential difference of 1000 V?

viii) Prove that the motion of projection of a particle describing circular motion with constant angular 'ω' is simple harmonic on one of the diameter of the circle.

ix) Define electric field intensity and electric potential. Prove that E = −ΔV/Δr .

x) Prove that total work done by the by the gravitational force in moving a body around a closed path is zero.

xi) Prove that the following equations are dimensionally correct:
* S = vit + 12 a t2
* T = 2π √(l/g)

xii) Define resistivity and derive its mathematical expression.

xiii) What is a projectile? Derive mathematical equation for its horizontal range.

xiv) A train sounds its whistle with a frequency of 200Hz . A stationary observer measures this frequency as 219 Hz . Find the speed of train (Speed of sound is 340m/s)

a) Two non-rotating spheres of masses 'm1' and 'm2' are moving in one dimension with initial velocities 'u1' and 'u2' respectively. Derive expressions for final velocities of both after an elastic collision.

b) Define capacitance of a capacitor. Derive expression for the capacitance of a parallel plate capacitor for following cases:

i) with free space between the plates

ii) with a dielectric between the plates

a) What is meant by Doppler effect? Derive expressions for apparent frequency of sound in following cases:

i) source of sound is moving towards stationary observer .

ii) observer is moving away from a stationary source of sound

b) Define scalar product and vector product of two vectors. Give one example of each. Prove that A × B ≠ B × A .

a) State Bernoulli's theorem. Write its assumptions and derive its mathematical expression.

b) Define interference of light. Derive expression for positions of dark and bright fringes in Young's double slit experiment. Also derive expression for fringe spacing:
