The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education BISE Peshawar is the parent board of KPK. The Peshawar Board was established in 1961. The Board’s duty is to conduct the annual and supplementary exams of SSC & HSSC every year. In 1961, Peshawar board was working as a whole of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa but later sub-offices at divisional level were arranged at Swat, Mardan, Kohat, Bannu and D.I. Khan due to the increasing amount of students and educational institutes.

The credential representing the completion of secondary education is the Secondary School Certificate (SSC), also known as Matriculation Certificate.
