ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR BDS DEGREES IN PAKISTAN
The eligibility criteria for admission of Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) students according to PMDC is as following.
MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA for LOCAL STUDENTS:
The minimum education requirement for local students is intermediate (twelve years education of education) from Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) or F.Sc or equivalent with F.Sc pre-medical. In order to get enrolled in a BDS minimum of 70 % marks is a minimum is required to apply. The minimum eligibility criteria for A-level students are having their foreign education with at least three science subjects i.e. chemistry, biology, and either mathematics or physics. This course must be recognized by the Inter Boards Committee of Chairmen (IBCC) for equivalency to FSc. (twelve years of education) or Higher Secondary School Certificate level of Pakistan with a minimum of 70% marks.
MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA for FOREIGN or OVERSEAS PAKISTANI STUDENTS:
The eligibility criteria for foreign or overseas Pakistani students are having completed twelve years of education in order to get enrolled for the BDS degree program. Foreign students can also apply against open merit or foreign quota seat in any government dental college or private dental college of Pakistan. The students must have gained education with at least these three courses that are Biology, Chemistry, either Math or Physics with a minimum of 70% marks. These courses must be certified by the Inter Boards Committee of Chairmen (IBCC) for equivalency to FSc. (twelve years of education) or Higher Secondary School Certificate level of Pakistan. Foreign candidates also fulfill the requirement in order to get admission which is as follows:
Having 5.5 or 500 minimum ban score certification of IELTS or TOEFL after one-year English language course offered by the National University of Modern Languages (NUML) certification.
Having SATII examination with minimum 550 marks in each of the three courses i.e biology, chemistry and either physics or mathematics or a foreign MDCAT with a minimum score of 500.
PMDC ADMISSION PROCEDURE FOR BDS (UNIFORM POLICY)
The PMDC has laid down the admission process according to which for applying in BDS both government and private dental colleges through Admitting University provincial wise universities are given below;
UHS, Lahore for Punjab, Federal, Baluchistan & AJK
LUMHS, Jamshoro/DUMS, Karachi/SMBBU Larkana through NTS for Sindh
KMU, Peshawar for KPK
NUMS, Islamabad for medical and dental colleges under military control
After the submission of application in respective Admitting University, province wise centralized MDCAT / Entry Test will be held & merit will be made by respective Admitting University.
GENERAL MERIT FORMULA
After clearing the MDCAT / Entry Test the respective Admitting University of each province will start admission procedure for its affiliated dental colleges and merit will be calculated as per following weightage formula:-
50% of F.Sc (Pre Medical) / HSSC / Equivalent; and
50% of MDCAT / Entry Test.
