BS Human Nutrition and Dietetics (BS HND) is a four-year, eight-semester degree in food, nutrition science and diet planning for health and disease. As of 27 October 2026, three admission notices on this page are still open: Kohat University of Science & Technology (last date 6 November), NUST Islamabad (14 November) and NUST Karachi (20 November). Most Spring 2027 notices have not been announced yet.

Admission dates and intakes

Pakistani universities usually run a Fall intake, with applications from summer through early autumn, and some also run Spring. The 2025–26 cycle looked like this:

Based on this pattern, Spring 2027 notices are likely to start appearing from December 2026, but no university has confirmed dates yet. Treat the table as a guide, not a promise.

Eligibility

Qualification

The usual route is FSc Pre-Medical, or A-Levels with Biology and Chemistry. Some universities are more flexible. The University of Agriculture Peshawar’s Spring 2026 notice accepts Pre-Medical or Pre-Engineering, and NUMS lists several backgrounds with Biology and Chemistry mandatory for those who didn’t study them as pre-medical subjects. Ziauddin’s program page lists Pre-Medical, Home Economics or A-Level with Biology.

Minimum marks

The notices we checked set the bar at 45% to 50%: 45% in both SSC and HSSC at the University of Agriculture Peshawar, and 50% in intermediate at MNS University of Agriculture Multan and NUMS. Competitive programs often admit well above the minimum, so meeting the cut-off does not guarantee a seat. 

Entry test and merit

Selection is merit-based, but the formula varies. Some universities add a university-specific or national test to your SSC and HSSC marks. Others use different mixes, and the weights change between notices. There is no single test for every BS HND program, so read the notice for the university you want.

Age limit

Many universities set none, but some do: the University of Agriculture Peshawar’s notice excludes candidates who have reached 25 on the last date.

Documents

Typical requirements include SSC and HSSC certificates, CNIC or Form-B, photographs and, at some universities, IBCC attestation or equivalence for foreign or A-Level qualifications. Keep scanned copies ready before the form opens.

Admission process step by step

1. Find the notice. Use the table above or the university’s website.

2. Apply online. Create an account, fill in your academic details and upload documents.

3. Pay the application fee, where one is charged, and keep the receipt.

4. Sit the test or wait for the merit list. Not every university tests.

5. Check the merit lists. Universities such as UVAS and CUVAS publish several lists, each with its own fee deadline. UVAS’s first list in August 2026 gave four days to pay and announced a next list if seats remained.

6. Pay the admission fee on time. A missed deadline can mean losing your seat to the next list.

7. Submit original documents. CUVAS, for example, confirms admission only after original documents and NIC/Form-B are verified.

If your intermediate result is pending: some selections are provisional. MNS University of Agriculture’s August 2026 merit list stated that admission is provisional until the 50% intermediate requirement is confirmed, and that admission is cancelled if the criterion is not met.

Fees

Fees differ widely between universities and between morning and evening programs, so no single national figure is reliable. Examples from published schedules:

• MNS University of Agriculture Multan asked selected candidates in its August 2026 first merit list to deposit Rs 62,900.

• University of Chenab’s Fall 2025 schedule shows tuition of Rs 6,600 per credit hour, or Rs 118,800 for an 18-credit-hour first semester, plus a Rs 3,000 enrolment fee.

• Ziauddin University lists one-time charges on top of tuition: admission fee (Rs 15,000), documentation (Rs 3,000), enrolment (Rs 2,600) and a security deposit (Rs 10,000), plus a per-semester lab fee (Rs 3,000).

Ask each university about the first-semester total, one-time charges, per-semester lab or clinical fees and any scholarship. Riphah Sahiwal, for example, advertises up to 50% off tuition. For a broader comparison, see the BS HND fee structure page.

What you will study

BS HND covers the science of food and the body and how to apply it to patients and communities. Common areas include human nutrition, biochemistry, food science, clinical and therapeutic nutrition, anatomy and physiology, community and public health nutrition, and practical hospital or internship training. Course names and sequencing differ by university, so check the scheme of studies. More detail is on the BS HND subjects page.

BS HND vs similar programs

• Doctor of Nutrition & Dietetics (DND): a longer, five-year route offered at some universities. See Doctor in Nutrition and Dietetics admissions.

• BS Food Science and Technology: focuses on food processing, safety and product development rather than patient diet. See BS Food Science and Technology admissions.

• BS Home Economics: broader, with food and nutrition as one of several areas. See BS Home Economics admissions.

• Name variants: some universities use “Human Diet & Nutrition” or “Dietetics and Nutrition Sciences”. Check duration, eligibility and clinical training rather than relying on the name.

Scope and careers

Graduates can work in clinical dietetics, community and public health nutrition, sports nutrition and food-service management, according to university program pages. Applicant checklist

• Confirm the university’s HEC recognition.

• Compare 3–5 universities on fees, test requirement and clinical training, not just ranking.

• Note each university’s merit-list schedule and fee deadlines.

• Keep scanned SSC, HSSC and CNIC/Form-B copies ready.

• Check whether your own marks are above the minimum and above last year’s closing merit.

• If your result is pending, confirm whether provisional admission is allowed.
