BS Human Nutrition and Dietetics (BS HND) is a sub-disciple of medicine and ranges from social sciences to biology and chemistry. This major has two main aspects. Nutrition deals with the study of food nutrients in the human body and Dietetics deal with food-related diseases.
In addition to this, the graduates of this major will be able to work in professional teams to treat complicated health conditions like eating disorders, unhealthy weight, food allergies and sensitivities, diabetes, malnutrition, and other health problems. Students during their journey of pursuing this degree learn to develop programs for health care, correctional and other institutions, improve the accuracy of food labels, ensure the safety of food supply, and work with manufacturers to improve the nutritional quality of preserved food and so on.
Students in Pakistan can pursue this major after studying F.Sc. (medical)/ A-Levels/ Equivalent certificate. Some universities have a minimum requirement of at least 45-50% marks.
Under HEC, there is a four-year BS/B.Sc. (Hons.) the degree program for Human Nutrition and Dietetics consisting of 8 semesters. The major BS Human Nutrition and Dietetics subjects in Pakistan range from human nutrition, food science, and technology, biochemistry, clinical biochemistry, food and drug laws to global food issues.
The scope is directly related to the job availability of a given major. This major doesn’t have a broad scope in Pakistan, since not many universities offer it. However, it is expected that its popularity will increase in the upcoming years, due to an increase in the health issues related to food and nutrition.
