MPhil Admissions in Pakistan

This Postgraduate degree fortifies the existing master degree and open routes for doctorate programs. Candidates opting for MS / MPhil degree programs are basically upgrading their acquired graduate studies competencies through research work and thesis. Many universities and institutions in Pakistan are now conducting MPhil programs in diverse courses. The general master’s degree is more theoretical and encompasses diverse topics however MPhil is quite specific about the subject as you are dealing with the actual philosophy of your field of study and it is mostly based on research.

Pakistani universities offer M.Phil degrees in all streams like arts, science, humanities, life sciences, business, accountancy etc. Students belonging to social sciences, education, pharmacy and linguistics usually apply for admission in MPhil.

Students normally get admission in M.Phil after the completion of their Master’s degree program. The M.Phil degree is also required to get admission into a PhD program.

Duration:

This is a 2-year research-based program that completes 18 years of education and leads to PhD.

Eligibility Criteria:

According to the Higher Education Commission (HEC), the eligibility criteria for admission in MPhil is as follows:

  1. Candidate should possess an MA/MSc degree or its equivalent in the relevant discipline.
  2. Candidate should have obtained first division in MA/MSc or BA/BSc MBA or at least 60% marks in BS (Hons) and all other 4-5 years degrees.
  3. Candidate should not have obtained third division in BA/BSc or MA or MSc.
  4. In case of the third division in FA/FSc, the candidate should have obtained first division in both BA/BSc and MA/MSc; or at least 60% marks in BS (Hons) and all other 4-5 years degrees.
  5. Candidate should have passed NTS GAT-General/ GRE-General with at least 50% accumulative score.
  6. Students normally get admission in M.Phil after the completion of their Master’s degree program.

General Fee structure in Public Universities:

  1. Processing/Test Fee 4,000/-
  2. Admission Fee 14,500/-
  3. Semester Fee (per six months) 18,200/-
  4. Departmental Charges (per semester) 3,000/-
  5. Thesis Evaluation/Viva Examination Fee 35,000
  6. The charges go high in private universities which are mentioned on their official websites.

Scope:

MPhil degree holders are mainly saturated in education, teaching and research jobs but they could be hired anywhere in their subject –based fields especially if they already have some prior work experience. Most of the MPhil students further study to get PhD degree
