The program focuses on engineering principles that are applied plan, design, construct and maintain structures such as roads, bridges, sky- high buildings, railways, factories, airports, irrigation schemes, docks, dams, , flood control or marine defense systems, Moreover the engineers are also involved in looking after water supply and sewerage disposal schemes, etc.

Course Duration:

  1. BS. OR B.E civil engineering is a 4-year course (8 semesters)
  2. Some universities also offers 2-year postgraduate degree programs such as Master of Engineering (M.C.E) in the following fields.
    1. Civil Engineering
    2. Structural Engineering
    3. Geotechnical and Highway Engineering
    4. Construction Management

Eligibility Criteria:

  1. Intermediate or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in Annual Examination with at least 60% marks are eligible to apply for admission.
  2. Candidates who have passed three years diploma from a recognized Board of Technical Education in Pakistan with at least 60% marks are also eligible to apply for admission under category ‘B’ in public universities.
  3. Candidates have to attend and pass an entrance test with at least 50% marks to seek admission in most of the engineering universities. This clause is varied for private institutions.
  4. For Master’s or Post graduate admission the candidate has to complete bachelor’s degree in relative engineering field with at least 50% marks.

Fee Structure:

An average but good university charge around PRs.25 thousands per semester while high ranked private institution could ask for PRs.2-3 million per semester. Some universities may charge a lower tuition fee. You can check the fee structure at the institute’s official website or visit their admission office to get the complete fee structure. High ranked universities like GIK have a hi-fi fee structure but these universities also offer scholarships to eligible candidates.


Civil engineers can get various openings in any type of infrastructure designing and construction genre. These professionals are hired during the courses of road building, dam construction. There are opportunities in Water and sewerage Department and similar offices. Thus wherever construction and planning of infrastructure is involved civil engineer has the chance to work. Moreover civil engineers can continue their studies for a post graduate degree to begin their career in Teaching and Research.
