Sindh government decision means that students in classes XI and XII, being educated by the Karachi Inter Board from 2017–18 to 2023–24, will not have to pay any fee at all.
The decision was made during a meeting of the Sindh Cabinet’s Sub-Committee on Finance which includes Nasir Hussain Shah and Zia Lanjar.
Deciding to settle the unpaid bill, the committee permitted the flow of Rs1.27 billion to the Karachi Inter Board.
It was explained to the meeting that although the Sindh government had already released Rs2.89 billion, the total student fees for all the years came to Rs4.16 billion, so Rs1.27 billion had not been paid yet.
Almost 700,000 students were enrolled at the board during the seven-year period and there were 1.2 million exam takers during the same time. As a result of the government’s move, students will not be asked to pay retrospective fees.
