Pakistan has won yet another top spot in the globe as they capture the biggest number of the erasmus mundus scholarship and this year, the country has done it in a record breaking manner.
By 2025 it is projected that it would have awarded 114 Pakistani students with the highly coveted Erasmus + Joint Masters scholarships that would be funded by the European Union. A total of 66 women are included amongst them, and today the women candidates represent close to 58 percent of the selected candidates in the country, which can be seen as a major milestone to female equality in higher education.
The programme is very competitive as it elected 2,176 students of overall 137 countries. The country leading the list was Pakistan, and it was followed by India via 96, Bangladesh via 95, Mexico via 93, Nigeria via 75, and Brazil via 73 that demonstrated high representation of the Global South.
Pakistan (189), excluding 100 men, 88 women, and one non-binary awardees were presented in 2024.
The Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters scholarships gives students the opportunity to obtain degrees in several universities across Europe including tuition fees, travelling cost, visas and living allowances. Curriculum The experience normally consists of international coursework, research, internship, and a co-supervised common thesis in at least three countries.
EU Delegation in Islamabad commended the success as a great moment and one which shows the increased academic stature of Pakistan in the international soil.
It is due to this sustained success that not only academic excellence but also the state of gender inclusion advancement among youth in Pakistan, has been highlighted.
