BS Computer Science (BSCS) is a four-year degree offered by many public and private universities across Pakistan. This page lists them by city, explains how entry works at the best-known names, and shows how to check whether a program is NCEAC-accredited. Do that check before you pay any fee, because a well-known campus does not guarantee that its computing program is accredited.
These names come up most often in student shortlists. “Best” depends on your marks, budget and city, and different ranking systems order them differently. U.S. News’s global computer science ranking for Pakistan, for example, places COMSATS first and NUST second.

Always confirm entry routes in the current admission notice; they change between cycles. See the BSCS admissions page for open notices.
Each city below lists universities that have offered BS Computer Science. Fees, seats and deadlines change every cycle, so treat these lists as a starting point and check each university’s own notice and its NCEAC status. Each city page also lists admission notices and more universities.
Options include FAST-NU Lahore, LUMS, ITU, PUCIT, UET Lahore, COMSATS Lahore, UMT, University of Lahore, UCP, Lahore Garrison University ⚠, Beaconhouse National University and GC University Lahore. See BSCS universities in Lahore.
You’ll find FAST-NU Karachi, NED University , IBA Karachi, University of Karachi, Habib University , SZABIST, Bahria University Karachi, Iqra University and DHA Suffa University . See BSCS universities in Karachi.
NUST (SEECS), FAST-NU Islamabad, COMSATS Islamabad, Air University, CUST, Quaid-i-Azam University, International Islamic University , Bahria University Islamabad, NUML and Riphah International University all offer BSCS. In Rawalpindi, look at Fatima Jinnah Women University and Arid Agriculture University. See BSCS universities in Islamabad and BSCS universities in Rawalpindi.
UET Peshawar , University of Peshawar , IMSciences, FAST-NU Peshawar, NUML Peshawar and Frontier Women University . CECOS University lists its BS Computer Science as NCEAC-accredited. See BSCS universities in Peshawar.
Faisalabad: GC University Faisalabad , National Textile University , GC Women University Faisalabad , FAST-NU Chiniot-Faisalabad. Multan: BZU , Air University Multan, NFC IET , Women University Multan, MNS University of Agriculture, University of Southern Punjab. Quetta: BUITEMS , University of Balochistan , Sardar Bahadur Khan Women’s University , Alhamd Islamic University. See the pages for Faisalabad, Multan and Quetta.
Virtual University offers BS Computer Science through distance learning. COMSATS Abbottabad and Abbottabad University of Science and Technology serve northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The full list of cities is at the bottom of this page.
NCEAC (the National Computing Education Accreditation Council) was notified by HEC in February 2005 to accredit computing degrees. It accredits BS programs in computer science, software engineering, IT, AI, data science, cyber security and others.
Open NCEAC’s institution list at nceac.org.pk and find your university and the exact campus.
Read the status, not just the name. NCEAC’s list includes institutions that applied and were accredited or not accredited. Being listed is not the same as being accredited.
Check the program and batch. The list shows the program and the batches covered, so confirm that the intake you would join is covered.
Treat missing campuses with caution. Institutions, sub-campuses and affiliated colleges not on the list offer non-accredited computing programs, and NCEAC advises students not to take admission in them.
Avoid weekend programs. NCEAC does not permit weekend classes for undergraduate computing degrees.
Confirm HEC recognition separately, and ask the admissions office to confirm in writing.
Public universities usually charge lower fees but have competitive merit and may set fixed quotas. Private universities often have more campuses and later intakes but higher fees. Compare total cost, not just tuition, on the BSCS fee structure page.
Start with merit honestly. Look at past merit lists and your likely test score, then sort universities into reach, realistic and safe options. Compare:
Entry route: own test, NTS NAT, SAT or intermediate marks only. Learn it early so you can prepare. Check eligibility on the BSCS eligibility criteria page.
Total cost: semester fees plus hostel and transport.
Specialisation fit: some departments lean towards AI and data science, others towards software or systems. Read the course outline, not just the program name.
Location and campus life: four years is long, so consider commuting and hostel options.
Accreditation: use the steps above.
Past results are on the BSCS merit lists page. New to the degree? Read what BSCS is and what it covers.
It depends on the program. HEC’s minimum is 132 credit hours over eight semesters for the 4-year B.Ed, 84 over five semesters for the 2.5-year B.Ed, and 54 over three semesters for the 1.5-year B.Ed. By my count of HEC’s scheme, that is 48 entries in the 4-year program, 28 in the 2.5-year and 18 in the 1.5-year, including practice teaching, internship and capstone. Most courses carry 3 credit hours.
The 12 compulsory professional courses are Foundations of Education, Inclusive Education, Education for Sustainable Development, Educational Psychology, Research Methods in Education, Curriculum Development, Critical Thinking and Reflective Practices, Educational Assessment and Evaluation, School Management, Educational Policies and Plans of Pakistan, Contemporary Literacies and Teaching Profession. Pedagogy (“Teaching of…”) courses and a specialization sit alongside them.
In the 4-year program, semester 1 has Quantitative Reasoning I, Natural Science, Functional English, ICT and two professional courses. In the 2.5-year program it is six professional courses. In the 1.5-year program it is four professional courses, one interdisciplinary course and one pedagogy course. Your university names the exact courses.
After FSc, FA or equivalent, choose the 4-year program. After a 14-year BA or BSc in a non-education field, choose the 2.5-year program. After a 16-year degree such as BS, MA or MSc, choose the 1.5-year program. Check the B.Ed eligibility criteria for the university you want.
Yes. The 4-year program includes school observation, two practice teaching courses and a 3-credit internship of 6–8 weeks. The 2.5-year program has two practice teaching courses and an internship. The 1.5-year program has two practice teaching courses.
Under HEC’s standard scheme, the 4-year and 2.5-year programs include all six pedagogy courses. In the 1.5-year program you choose one pedagogy course (Science, Social Science or Languages). Some universities add subject-wise methodology choices, so check your scheme.
No. HEC sets minimum categories and credit hours, but universities decide course names, sequence, electives and which specializations to offer.
