As a rule, public universities that offer BS Poultry Science are relatively inexpensive (in terms of tuition fees), which is why they are preferred by most students. Fees charged in public universities per semester are between PKR 25,000 and PKR 50,000, which depends on the reputation and resources of the university. The top public sector choice would include the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore, Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi and Sindh Agriculture University Tandojam. Government subsidizes these universities, and this aspect makes the fee system lower in comparison to the privatized institutions. Furthermore, most government colleges provide fee concessions or scholarships to needy students, and it is easier to study.
Universities in the private sector have a higher cost because they have a modern infrastructure and state of the art laboratories and specialized faculty. Depending on the university, the per-semester tuition fee in the privates is between PKR 80,000 to PKR 150,000. The cost can go up by having extra fees in research project, lab equipment use and workshops which are usually charged by the private universities. Nevertheless, the investment can be said to have been justified as these universities offer smaller classrooms, practical training and superior industry connectivity that can make students more employable after graduation. There are also numerous privately offered merit-based scholarships and installments to pay the fees.
Besides tuition fees, there are other academic costs that the students ought to take into account in the BS Poultry Science program. These are registration costs, examination costs, library costs, transport costs and laboratory consumables. During research-based semesters, students may have the additional expenditures on the fieldwork, feed formulation experiments, and disease diagnosis projects. Another expense that is independent is hostel accommodation and meal plans that may incur between PKR 30,000 and PKR 60,000 per semester basing on the facilities offered in the university. All these costs have to be controlled during the four years program, which is possible only with proper budgeting.
Financial assistance opportunities are offered by many universities to make sure that students of different socioeconomic groups have a chance to study higher education in poultry sciences. Government programs such as the Ehsaas Undergraduate Scholarship Program, Punjab Educational Endowment Fund (PEEF) and scholarships offered by individual universities assist the gifted students by giving them a partial or full waiver on the fees. There are also merit-based scholarships in which students with high CGPAs will receive the scholarships in their degree program. Such sources of funds experience a big decrease in the financial load on students and it enables them to concentrate on the academic and research excellence.
