Just like the Christmas known, a festival of Christians is known in the entire world, so is the Muslim festival of Eid. The actual meaning of the word ‘Eid’ is ‘Happiness’ or the ‘Joy’, therefore, the festival of Eid is a festival of joy where the Muslims celebrate happiness by sharing it with their loved ones. All over in the Islamic calendar, Muslims celebrate two Eids, one is known as ‘Eid-ul-Fitr’, whereas the other one is known as ‘Eid-ul-Adha’.

Eid-ul-Fitr also known as (Meethi Eid) is the one that comes after Ramadan where after a month of fasting Muslims celebrate it. Even though, Eid-ul-Adha is the one on which Muslims also celebrate however the celebrations are normally outshined through the events of sacrificing in the name of Allah. Both of these Eids have their own worth.

How to Celebrate Eid ul Adha (Greater Eid)

Here we are discussing some ways in which a Muslim can celebrate Eid-ul-Adha in the true spirit in which it is expected to be celebrated.

Turn Towards Ibadah:

If we carefully examine the reasons that why Muslims celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr with more zeal and zest as compared to Eid-ul-Adha, then the major verdict that one comes up along with is the fact that the Eid-ul-Fitr is headed through the month of Ramadan in which Muslims pray and worship excessively, hence, when Eid comes they deliberate it their gift for all the prayers and worship that’s why give this Eid more energy and spirit to the people. On the other hand, as of lack of knowledge, Muslims don’t have any such inspiration and enthusiasm available to celebrate Eid-ul-Adha and they just choose for doing it along with the ordinary spirit. There are few hadiths of Prophet (PBUH) that embolden increased Ibadah during the first 10 days of Zill-Hajj, which if done provides the similar spirit as well as motivation for celebration of Eid-ul-Adha just like for for Eid-ul-Fitr.

In one hadith, Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said:

He said “There are no actions as excellent as those done in these ten days of Zill-Hajj.” The Companions said, “Not even Jihad?” He said, “No not even Jihad excluding a man who goes forth compromising his life and wealth and does not return with anything.” (Sahi-Bukhari)

From this hadith it’s quite clear that as compared to rest of the year, the good actions done in the first ten days of Zill-Hijja have no match to any other day in the entire year. That’s why, a Muslim must upsurge Ibadah in these ten days, so as to he or she gets the maximum possible grant and then like a countenance of reward, one celebrates Eid-ul-Adha.

In another hadith, Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said:

“There are not any other days that are as great as these ten days of Zill-Hajj in the sight of Allah, the Most Merciful. Nor are there any actions more adored to Allah then those that are done in these days. So make your habit to increasingly saying Tahlil (to say La Ilaha Illalah), Takbir (to say Alla-hu-Akbar) and Tahmid (to say Alhamdulillah).” (Tabrani)

This hadith visibly displays Prophet (SAW) teaching Muslims to pander in praise of Allah Almighty by reciting various Tasbeehat in the first ten days of Zill-Hajj. Therefore, when a Muslim pay tributes and worships Allah Almighty excessively for these ten days then he or she definitely does celebrate Eid-ul-Adha in the same way just like they celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr.

Remembering The Sacrifice of Ibrahim (AS):

One of the major as well as the main attractions of Eid-ul-Adha is the sacrifice of animal that takes place on the day of Eid. All the Muslims who have the capability to afford an animal for sacrifice do so on that day and all this is done in memorial of the Sunnah of Prophet Ibrahim (A.S).

On just the single call of Allah Almighty, Prophet Ibrahim (AS) sacrificed his beloved son Ismail (A.S). Though, as soon as he was to cut his throat along with a knife, Allah Almighty swapped Ismail (A.S) along with a sheep and accepted his sacrifice as well. Allah (SWT) has made this Sunnah of Hazrat Ibrahim (A.S) a part of Eid-ul-Adha and Muslims from that time have been sacrificing animals following his ways.

The thing that can take the essence of celebration back for Eid-ul-Adha is Muslims comprehending and also relating with Hazrat Ibrahim (A.S). He loved his son however when the order of Allah came he was eager to sacrifice his beloved in the way of Allah (SWT). The thing that Allah Almighty wants from Muslims is to sacrifice an animal for Him, though, if Muslims purchase this animal days before the day, then they could moreover ripen connection and affection with the animal and when it is to be sacrificed then they could have a little idea of what went through the mind as well as the heart of Hazrat Ibrahim (AS). Hence, when such a feeling arise in the heart of a Muslim, then he or she comprehends the actual purpose of Eid-ul-Adha as well as fair celebration is done on that event.

Sunnah of Muhammad (PBUH):

For any Muslim the best personality to follow is the personality of Our Beloved Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SAW). He was complete in each sense of matter; hence, every time Muslims are in a situation where they search for guidance, they immediately turn towards the Sunnah of Holy Prophet (PBUH) and perform the specific thing that Prophet (PBUH) performed in His life or they follow the instructions that He gave about the specific matter. When it comes to the celebrations of Eid-ul-Adha, it can best be celebrated in the best spirit if a Muslim follows the Sunnah of Hazrat Muhammad (SAW) on that day. Some of the main Sunnahs of Prophet (PBUH) when it came to celebrating Eid-ul-Adha includes:

o   Performing Ghusl on Eid day

o   Wearing the best as well as most beautiful clothes available before going to the mosque for offering Eid prayer

o   Taking one route while going to prayer and coming back to home from the other way

o   Offer the Eid prayer in gathering at the Eid prayer place

o   Congratulating all at the worshippers and also all those who meet on the way while coming back to home

o   Eating nothing in breakfast till the animal was sacrificed and selecting something to eat from its meat

o   Therefore, if a Muslim can follow these Sunnahs then he or she can be guaranteed that they have celebrated Eid-ul-Adha in the correct as well as in commendable manner.

Verdict:

The cause why the spirit for celebrating Eid-ul-Adha is just similar to the Eid-ul-Fitr is the absence of knowledge of Muslims regarding hadith as well as Sunnah of Prophet (SAW). If Muslims know as well as understand the significance of the first ten days of Zill-Hajj, they try to considerate the actual meaning of sacrifice that was experienced by Hazrat Ibrahim (A.S) and if they read the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) refer to to Eid-ul-Adha celebrations, then they will definitely develop the right spirit in which this specific Eid ought to be famous.
