PMS Preparation 2026: How to Prepare, Where to Study and What Coaching Costs

PMS (Provincial Management Service) preparation means getting through a province's public service commission exam: PPSC in Punjab, SPSC in Sindh, KPPSC in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, BPSC in Balochistan. Start with the English Essay, précis and General Knowledge papers, use PPSC's free syllabus and past papers, and treat an academy as optional. Coaching fees are not standardised: ask for a written schedule. Punjab University's 2025 prep courses cost Rs 20,000–36,000.

Where candidates are filtered out (Punjab)

The numbers from the latest Punjab cycle should shape your plan. Over 36,000 candidates sat the Phase-I General Knowledge MCQ on 25 January 2026, and 8,898 qualified, roughly one in four. In the written stage, 344 candidates were provisionally cleared, about 4% of those who qualified for it. So the General Knowledge MCQ is a real gate, and written-paper quality decides the rest. PPSC advertisements have set 40% in each paper and 50% aggregate to qualify for interview, with negative marking of 0.25 per wrong General Knowledge MCQ.

Do you need a coaching academy?

Not necessarily. Academies help most with feedback on writing and with structure. If you can write timed essays and get them marked by someone qualified, self-study works. Before paying, check:

  1. Ask how written papers are evaluated and how quickly you get feedback.

  2. Ask for a trial class and the batch size.

  3. Ask for a written fee schedule including what's extra (material, mock tests).

  4. Ask for the refund and withdrawal policy in writing.

  5. Be wary of guaranteed results. No institute can promise selection.

What PMS coaching costs
