The National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) is a leading and one of the largest banks in the country. The Bank is seeking highly motivated, experienced professionals to join its Shariah Compliance Department in Karachi for the following positions:


1. Product Facilitation Unit Officer (PFUO)

Position Level: OG-II / OG-I
Department: Shariah Compliance
Location: Karachi
Reporting To: Unit Head, Shariah Compliance Department


Educational Qualification:

Minimum: Graduation or equivalent from an HEC-recognized local or international institution.

Preference will be given to candidates with:

Master’s degree in Islamic Banking/Finance

ACCA / CA (Part Qualified)

Certification, Diploma, or Specialization in Islamic Finance or Jurisprudence (Fiqh-ul-Muamalat)


Experience:

Minimum 2 years of experience in banking/financial institutions.

Preference for experience in:

Shariah compliance

Product development

Shariah advisory and/or Shariah audit


Required Skills & Knowledge:

Good command of Microsoft Excel

Strong analytical and content writing skills

Sound understanding of Shariah principles applied in commerce, banking, and regulations (as issued by SBP)


Key Responsibilities:

Review product policies, operational manuals, legal documentation, and Shariah-compliance aspects.

Evaluate proposals, contracts, agreements, manuals, process flows, and checklists submitted by management.

Review Credit Approval Memorandums (CAM) and assist the Head of Shariah Compliance in documentation endorsement.

Participate in User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and review syndicate funding documents.

Conduct visits to customers and stakeholders to align practical workflows with Shariah compliance.

Attend meetings with internal/external stakeholders regarding Shariah-related product structuring and operations.

Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.


2. Shariah Compliance Officer (SCO)

Position Level: OG-II / OG-I
Department: Shariah Compliance
Location: Karachi
Reporting To: Head, Shariah Compliance Department


Educational Qualification:

Minimum: Graduation or equivalent from an HEC-recognized institution.

Preference for:

Master’s degree in Islamic Banking/Finance

ACCA / CA (Part Qualified)

Relevant Islamic Finance certification or qualification


Experience:

Minimum 2 years of experience in Islamic banking/financial institutions.

Preferably with a focus on:

Shariah compliance

Shariah advisory

Shariah audit


Required Skills & Knowledge:

Strong interpersonal, communication, and analytical skills.

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and content writing.

In-depth understanding of Shariah laws as applied to banking and finance, and SBP Shariah regulations.


Key Responsibilities:

Ensure Islamic banking operations are in compliance with SBP regulations and Shariah Board guidelines.

Review activities of departments including Treasury, Financing Portfolio, and Pool Management for Shariah compliance.

Assess collaterals and credit approvals for compliance before sign-off by the Head of Shariah Compliance.

Respond to Shariah-related queries from branches and management.

Monitor and review rectifications from Shariah Compliance Review Reports.

Develop and implement Shariah Compliance Frameworks for departments.

Coordinate with other departments and external stakeholders on Shariah compliance matters.

Provide Shariah input on profit & loss distribution, policy, IT systems, and pool management.

Train staff on Shariah compliance practices.

Perform any other duties assigned by supervisors.


Additional Information:

Employment Type: Contractual, initially for three (03) years, extendable based on performance and at the discretion of the management.

Compensation: Market-competitive salary and benefits, in accordance with the Bank’s policies.
