University of Peshawar ranked at 5th Position by URAP ratings

A well reputed international university rankings agency named University Ranking by Academic Performance (URAP) has ranked the University of Peshawar at 5th position for its overall academic performance in Pakistan’s Universities. The other four Universities that were able to achieve rankings in this prestigious list are Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU), Punjab University (PU), University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) and National University of Science and Technology (NUST).

URAP has specified the attributes of UoP’s research productivity, collaboration and citation were the basis on which it was placed in this position. The 5th position of UoP is among top 5 Universities of Pakistan whereas its international ranking in URAP is at 1,363 and was assigned B+ category. Quaid-i-Azam University was assigned B++ category and its international ranking in URAP was concluded at 547 numbers.

The registrar of University of Peshawar expressed immense happiness for receiving recognition from an international University ranking and congratulated the hard working administration academic faculty of UoP. He appreciated the University’s Quality Enhancement Director Dr Ashad Halimi for submitting data in time and commended the efforts of his entire administration and heads. He further commented that the entire credit goes to faculty research output of UoP and it is certainly a huge milestone for the University and he said the University’s administration is resolute to progress further and touch more horizons in educational field.

He said that UoP is mainly Social Science University and it has widened its scope and achieving expertise in every educational field. The University Ranking by Academic Performance (URAP) is nonprofit organization. It was established in 2009 and its researchers belong from Middle East Technical University (METU). Quaid-i-Azam University was the only Pakistani University to attain B++ category and unfortunately none of Pakistani University achieved A++ category in URAP rankings.

URAP ranks the Universities on the basis of Article, Citation, Total Document, Research Quality, Citation and International Collaboration. Such University Rankings as URAP, QS or Times University Rankings are workings as comprehensive judgment system to conclude yearly academic and research performance made by the universities all across the world. It sets a healthy competition and encourages the University’s administration to work more dedicatedly and progress more to gain higher position in next year.

Research based courses and programmes are being introduced in Universities all across the globe but its effectiveness and performance is matter of a great debate in international platforms. Such rankings have put the research programmes being run by Universities for ultimate performance calculator under one platform. By the analysis of these rankings, the Universities can make amendments and strategize their future plan to develop a more productive and inclusive academic system to be adopted by their teachers.
