PMDC has advised all medical and dental colleges not to fill their vacant seats without consulting the council. Dr. Shaista stated in her letter to principals that it is not permitted for any medical or dental institution to fill these vacancies without involvement from PMDC.
Authorities have established that, as stated by the letter, universities governing admissions in all colleges of their respective regions are bound to follow the rules mentioned in Section 17(5) of the PMDC Act, 2022.
According to Dr. Shaista, only the universities themselves can grant students recognition with admissions obtained from the PMDC’s amnesty scheme.
Lately, PMDC made changes to the requirements for those applying to vacant seats in private medical and dental colleges. Furthermore, the cut-off score for passing MDCAT has been lowered to 50% for MBBS and 45% for BDS programs. The authorities made Liaquat Medical University Jamshoro the exclusive university for admissions in Sindh, while candidates were required to pay Rs4,500 for the admission fee and Rs7,000 for the entrance examination.
