Islamabad: Higher Education Commission has taken the step of promoting Data Science activities in association along with the national and international partners both from industry and from academia.

This statement was given during the inauguration of a three-day workshop on Data Science organized by HEC on Tuesday.

The workshop is targeted at providing networking opportunity to local community along with the international domains.

This workshop will offer networking and combined opportunities to local community and extend a platform to share the thoughts and learn from the field professionals, foreign professors, researchers as well as industry professionals from United States, China, United Kingdom, New Zealand and Australia as well.

The ceremony was organized at the commission’s office where Chairperson HEC Dr Mukhtar Ahmed, Director National Centre for Supercomputing Applications, University of Illinois Dr Edward Seidel, Chairperson National Computing Education Accreditation Council Dr Ayub Alvi as well as Executive Director HEC Dr Arshad Ali were also present.

While speaking on the occasion, the chairperson of higher education commission Dr Mukhtar Ahmed stressed on the need for promotion of constructive sciences which lead to the well-being of mankind.

He observed that the science has made instant progress and scientific miracles are actually the beauty of nature; but, devastation caused by the misuse of science is also a harsh reality.

He urged the scientists and also the community related along with the data science to focus the betterment of human beings in their work.

Dr Edward Seidel shed the light on the development of data science as a new example. Explaining the data-enabled transformation of science, he exposed the role of Data Science in different scientific fields.

He moreover discussed the topics such as Sloan Digital Sky Survey, Big Data, Long Tail of Science, Materials Genome, Big Data Hubs, material innovations, and fundamental observations that scientists have communicated by sharing data.

Dr Seidel shared the main vision of opening data and publication services while describing the latest dimensions in the advanced publications.

He emphasized the need for a concrete policy to certify the effective use of Data Science in every field.

Dr Arshad Ali informed that Higher Education Commission plans to set up five data science centres in Pakistan, one in every province and the fifth one in the federal capital.
