It will be first forensic laboratory of province of Sindh. The Government has decided to spend Rs 220m on its establishment at University of Karachi’s International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS).The forensic laboratory will be able to perform DNA examinations and tests. It was decided by Chief Secretary Mumtaz Ali Shah during a meeting held on Sunday. The proposal of establishing forensic lab in Sindh was awaiting agreement for quite a long time, but this sudden implementation took place because of the occurrence of the unfortunate incident of deaths of two children in Sindh due to food poisoning after eating at DHA restaurant.

The Chief Secretary held a meeting to get detailed report on present DNA testing and analysis and research facility of Liaquat University of Medical & Health Sciences (LUMHS) and University of Karachi. The VC of LUMHS informed the Chief Secretary that around 1,000 samples were sent to LUMHS for DNA analysis from 2015 till 2018. The present DNA testing facilities at KU and LUMHs are capable to conduct tests for academic research nut are impotent to undertake forensic analysis and testing. The samples of food and others required in the case of deaths of two children were sent for tests to Lahore Forensic Laboratory. Therefore, the Government of Sindh has finally decided to establish and upgrade the forensic laboratories in KU and LUMHS for DNA analysis in Sindh. The establishment of forensic laboratory will also enhance academic research facility of research programs of students.
