Medical Colleges/Universities have an important role in the development of a country as they tend to produce professionals who can contribute to the welfare of the society.
All medical colleges and universities are monitored and maintained via their respective provincial department of health. Medical Colleges/Universities should be recognized by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) to ensure that they meet the centralized criteria set by the PMDC for all universities. PMDC is responsible for setting guidelines for medical universities to ensure quality education. Medical universities offer high merit for admissions which considers students performance at intermediate level or A levels and the score attained in MCAT. Medical Universities should be affiliated with PMDC.
After successfully completing five years of educational training in the medical college and affiliated teaching hospitals the graduates are awarded a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree.
There are many renowned medical colleges/universities all around the country. There are a total of 94 medical colleges in Pakistan, 39 of which are public and 55 private. King Edward Medical College, Fatima Jinnah Medical College and Allama Iqbal College are a few well known institutes located in Lahore.
