DVM Eligibility Criteria in Pakistan 2026: Marks, Age, Test and Streams
To be eligible for DVM (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine) in Pakistan you generally need FSc Pre-Medical (or A-Levels with Biology, Chemistry, Physics) with about 60%. Some universities accept 50%, and merit is built from Matric, Intermediate and sometimes an entry test. MDCAT is not a general DVM requirement. Thresholds are minimums. Actual merit at public universities is much higher, so treat 60% as the door, not the target.
Which FSc Group Do You Need?
Pre-Medical (Biology, Chemistry, Physics). This is the standard entry ticket for DVM.
Pre-Engineering or ICS. Generally not eligible, because Biology is required.
A-Levels. Accepted with Biology, Chemistry and Physics, and you need an equivalence certificate from IBCC. Riphah says candidates from non-FSc streams must have IBCC equivalence in the relevant groups.
Awaiting results. Several universities accept applicants awaiting HSSC results, provided documents follow within the stated window (Ziauddin's is 90 days).
Is MDCAT Required for DVM?
No, not as a national requirement. MDCAT is the gateway for MBBS and BDS. UVAS admits DVM on merit with no entry test, while UAF, Riphah and UCP run their own tests. Some older websites still claim MDCAT is required for DVM. When a page conflicts with the university prospectus, trust the prospectus.
Age Limit
Limits are set per university. UVAS recent notices report an upper age limit of 25 on the last application date, though older UVAS FAQs say 23. Read the current prospectus before you apply.
Reserved Seats and Special Categories
UVAS reserves seats for categories such as candidates from AJK, Northern Areas, Balochistan, FATA, defense forces, overseas Pakistanis, foreign nationals, and persons with disabilities. Each seat type has its own rules.
