Doctor of Nutrition & Dietetics Jobs in Pakistan (2026): Roles, Salary and Registration

Graduates of Doctor of Nutrition & Dietetics (DND) and the equivalent four-year BS HND work as clinical dietitians, nutritionists, public health nutrition officers, food-safety staff and researchers. Indeed's job-posting data puts the average dietitian salary at Rs 39,033 per month, and its own range runs from roughly Rs 27,000 to Rs 57,000. Many hospital roles ask for two or more years of experience and PNDS registration, and Pakistan's allied health regulator, AHPC, has made registration mandatory for allied health professionals.

What DND graduates actually do

Hospitals and clinics. This is the most direct route. Recent listings include clinical dietitian roles such as an oncology dietitian post at Ziauddin Hospital in Karachi and a consultant dietitian post at a Karachi medical center. That Karachi listing asked for 2–3 years of hospital experience and made PNDS registration mandatory. Specialties named in postings include ICU, diabetes, renal and critical care nutrition.

Government and public health. UVAS, which runs a DND program, names nutrition supervisors in basic health units across Punjab and nutrition officers in the Health Department among its graduates' career roles. The Punjab Food Authority advertised a BPS-16 nutritionist post in December 2023 on a three-year contract, and its qualification list named doctor-of-dietetics degrees alongside BS and MS Human Nutrition and Dietetics. That ad is old, so check for current vacancies.

NGOs and development work. Listings on job boards regularly include nutritionist posts at charities and hospital trusts, such as Zindagi Trust and Indus Hospital.

Private practice and wellness. Clinics and diet centres hire nutritionists, and some Lahore clinics advertise rental or share-based practice models for dietitians who bring their own clients.

Research and teaching. A higher degree opens lecturing and research posts. One Multan listing sought a PhD-level clinical dietitian at Rs 100,000 to Rs 150,000 per month, but it also required PNDS registration and three to five years of experience.

By city, Indeed's dietitian averages are Karachi Rs 43,928, Faisalabad Rs 36,591, Islamabad Rs 33,036 and Rawalpindi Rs 29,680.

Our reading: for a fresh graduate, expect posted pay somewhere in the Rs 25,000 to Rs 60,000 range, and treat the very high estimates as ceilings reached with experience, specialization or a higher degree, not as starting salaries.

The experience gap

Fresh graduates should know this before enrolling. Clinical postings often ask for experience: a Lahore diabetes centre wanted 3–4 years, and a Karachi hospital's oncology dietitian post asked for 2–3 years. Entry routes usually run through internships, junior nutritionist posts, or NGO and community roles. Use your degree's internship to build documented clinical hours.

Registration you will need

AHPC. A January 2026 notification directed hospitals, labs and institutions to ensure allied health staff were registered with AHPC by 30 June 2026, and coverage reports say the rule applies to fields including nutrition. A guide on a private allied health site says the deadline passed without an extension but applications are still being processed. Check the official AHPC portal for your category.

PNDS RDN. The Pakistan Nutrition and Dietetic Society runs a Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist pathway. It asks for a university dietetics program accredited by PNDS, supervised internship or training, and at least one year in a clinical setting for clinical dietitians. Its page names the four-year BS in Human Nutrition among qualifying degrees, so ask PNDS how a five-year DND is treated. See the PNDS RDN page.

Working abroad

There is no single international exam. Each country licenses separately.

  • Dubai: DHA's published requirements list a BS in Dietetics with two years of post-qualification experience in a health facility, plus an exam unless you hold a license from a recognized authority.

  • Kuwait: licensing involves a recognized degree, two to three years of clinical experience, DataFlow verification and an MOH dietetics exam.

  • United States: a master's degree has been required to sit the registration exam since January 2024.

Those details come from licensing guides rather than the regulators themselves, so confirm with the authority before planning a move.

Can a DND graduate use "Dr."?

This is unsettled. HEC allowed Pharm.D and DPT holders to use the prefix in 2021, but UHS had barred anyone other than MBBS and BDS holders from using it. I found no equivalent ruling for DND. Ask your university and HEC before printing the title on cards or clinic boards. Also confirm your degree's title against HEC's current nomenclature (see our DND syllabus page).
