The study of nutrients in the human body has become immensely significant as the diseases prevailing in this era are mostly associated with dietary issues. Dietetics is the subject which is concerned with the prevention and treatment of a variety of food-oriented diseases. The Doctor of Nutrition and Dietetics studies scientific knowledge about food health and disease relationships and help patients and the general public to overcome these diseases and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

The Course Content:
The course contains critical subjects like Fundamentals of Human Nutrition, Contemporary Nutrition-Macronutrients in Human Nutrition, General Anatomy and Histology, Human Physiology, biochemistry, Introduction to Computer Science and Information Technology, Food Microbiology and Bio-statistics. This is a 5- year, 10-semester program teaching all the principles related to diet and nutrition as well as compulsory courses like Pakistan studies and Islamiat.
Though very few government t institutes offer this course still there are many private institutions rendering the DND doctor of Nutrition and Dietetics course across the country.
Besides this 5-year degree program,1-2 years certificate or diploma courses are also available in this genre with matric is the minimum qualification required for admission.
To get admission in a full-length DND degree course the student has to pass 12 years of education that is intermediate with pre-medical as the major group and Biology, Physics, Chemistry as core subjects. Minimum 50% passing marks are required to take admission in this course.
Public universities are yet not conducting DND courses, rather they are offering 4-year Bachelors program in food and nutrition. The institutes where DND course is conducted are charging around 1-1.5 lacs for the complete course. This is an estimated cost, therefore, it is better to check the institute’s website for recent updates.
Unfortunately, the career scope of DND is yet not established in the public sector as it should be but for private sectors the opportunities are many. These professionals can work as food technologists, food inspectors or food analysts in various food industries. Many hospitals especially diabetic centers, cardiovascular hospitals and old-age home have designations for a DND to serve their patients and residents.
