The board came into being in 1977 and organized the matric and intermediate exams for the first time in the region in 1978. The board is one of major examination body among all Punjab boards and coordinates with other boards. The affiliated parts of BISE Rawalpindi are Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum and Rawalpindi. Ministry of education supervises all the activities of board.
