MA opens government routes such as lecturer and subject-specialist posts through PPSC, officer induction through the Army Education Corps, and competitive-exam options. Standard PPSC lecturer ads ask for a master's degree in the relevant subject, usually at least second division, with ages 21 to 28 plus relaxation. Google isn't an MA-specific employer. Always check the age and division rules in the current advertisement before applying.
An MA by itself doesn't get you a job. The advertisement does. Every government post in Pakistan sets its own rules for subject, division, age and domicile, and many people are rejected on those, not on ability. This guide maps the main routes open to MA graduates and shows where to apply, so you can check your eligibility before you invest time in a test.
Here is the overview. The details sit in the sections below.
| Route | Typical MA requirement | Age rule in recent ads | Where to apply |
|---|---|---|---|
| PPSC Lecturer (BS-17) | Master's in the relevant subject, commonly at least second division | 21 to 28, plus 5 years (male) or 8 years (female) relaxation | ppsc.gop.pk |
| PPSC Subject Specialist, English (BS-17) | Master's or BS in English, second division or Grade C in the ad reviewed | Same relaxation pattern | ppsc.gop.pk |
| Army Education Corps | MA, MSc or BS (4-year) in notified disciplines, 16 years of education | 28 in the recent circular I could verify | joinpakarmy.gov.pk |
| Federal posts and CSS | Varies by post | Varies by post | fpsc.gov.pk |
| Google (Karachi openings) | Bachelor's plus experience | Not age-capped | Google Careers |
Most provincial public service commissions advertise on a similar pattern. The Punjab pattern is the clearest published one, so it is used here as the reference.
MA Education graduates have one of the oldest recognised routes. Back in 2003, Punjab's education department notified the Punjab University Institute of Education and Research's MA Education as equivalent to B.Ed or M.Ed for secondary-level posts. That notification is old. Treat it as history and read the current recruitment rules for any post you target, because schools departments often want a separate teaching qualification such as B.Ed for school-level posts.Lecturer posts at BS-17 are the standard college-level target. PPSC lecturer ads usually require a master's degree in the relevant subject with at least a second division.
MA Education also appears in the Army Education Corps criteria. See the Army section below.
The army recruits MA, MSc and BS graduates as officers through the Army Education Corps. The circular I verified lists a minimum of 16 years of education and disciplines such as Education, Pak Studies and Computer Science. The full discipline list changes between circulars, so read the one that is current.
Academic record: No third division or Grade D, and at most one second division or Grade C across the whole record from matric to MA, MSc or BS.
The AEC-Male stream is the one in that circular. Women should watch for separate Lady Cadet Course announcements, where Army Education Corps posts have also appeared.
Registration opens on the Pakistan Army recruitment website, joinpakarmy.gov.pk, when the induction is announced. Check that site for the current window, because the dates move each cycle.
MA English holders can apply for Subject Specialist (English) posts. In a recent Punjab ad, the post was BS-17, required a master's or BS in English at second division or Grade C, and set age limits of 21 to 28 plus 5 years for men and 8 years for women.
For Lahore specifically, PPSC itself sits in Lahore, and lecturer and specialist posts are posted province-wide through it. Private schools, colleges and publishing houses make up the other half of the Lahore market. Our MA English career guide covers the writing, teaching and civil-service options in more detail.
Economics graduates can apply for lecturer posts like other MA holders. Beyond teaching, they look at economist and research positions in planning bodies, banks and research institutes, and at the CSS exam. Posts differ by department, so match your specialisation to the ad wording.
Sociology graduates can aim for lecturer posts, social welfare and probation-related roles, and research work in NGOs and development organisations. They can also sit competitive exams like CSS. As with Economics, read each ad for the exact subject match.
Criminology is newer as a formal subject in Pakistan. Career pages for it name law enforcement, forensic labs, legal and correctional services, research institutions and policy bodies as employers. One university department adds prosecution, parole, probation and juvenile justice. On the policing side, Punjab's Crime Control Department began recruiting 4,000 personnel in phases. Check each post's educational requirement, since many policing posts have their own qualification rules.
Google doesn't run an "MA jobs" category. Its recent Pakistan openings are in Karachi and sit in senior B2B sales, strategy and education-contract roles. The listed roles ask for a bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience, plus several years in sales, digital advertising or analytics. The account manager role also requires fluency in English and Urdu. google is offering jobs finally hiring in pakistan +2
An MA helps, but experience decides. If Google is your goal, build skills in digital marketing, analytics or education technology first. Applications go through Google Careers.
PPSC publishes eligibility guidance per post. The pattern in recent guidance is consistent. Applicants for lecturer posts need a valid CNIC, matric and intermediate certificates, and graduate or master's degrees with marks sheets showing total and obtained marks. Candidates who don't hold the required division are rejected even if they pass the written test. If your degree is foreign or equivalent, you are responsible for getting HEC equivalence before the test or interview.
Two warnings from PPSC's own wording. The division rule is not uniform: some lecturer posts ask for second division, while others in the same period asked for first division or Grade B. And the age rule is "21 to 28" first, then relaxation added on top.
If you are still completing your degree, our MA registration guide and MA date sheets help you stay on track. To compare programmes, see the list of MA institutes in Pakistan. For subject-specific careers, we also have guides on MA Urdu, MA Islamiat and MA History.
MA holders can apply for lecturer and subject-specialist posts through provincial public service commissions such as PPSC, for officer induction through the Army Education Corps, and for federal posts and the CSS exam. Each ad sets its own subject, division and age rules.
Yes. MA Education graduates can apply for teaching posts and for the Army Education Corps, which lists Education among its notified disciplines. For school-level posts, check whether the ad also asks for a teaching qualification such as B.Ed.
