The National Grid Company (NGC), formerly known as the National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC), is a pivotal institution within Pakistan’s power sector. It is entrusted with the efficient transmission of electricity from generation plants to distribution companies throughout the country. NGC oversees the national high-voltage grid infrastructure, ensuring reliable, secure, and sustainable power delivery.
NGC is seeking a dynamic and experienced professional to assume the role of Managing Director (MD). The MD will be responsible for leading the strategic and operational management of the company’s national transmission network in compliance with regulatory frameworks and industry standards.
The Managing Director shall:
Operational Management:
Ensure the effective operation and maintenance of the national grid with required availability and reliability. Meet performance benchmarks as established by the Regulator and Board.
Strategic Leadership:
Lead the development of long-term strategic and business plans. Collaborate with the Board and stakeholders to optimize organizational structure and operations.
Network Improvement:
Direct and supervise the Transmission Service Provision (TSP), and drive initiatives to enhance the transmission infrastructure via strategic action plans.
Efficiency & Productivity:
Establish efficient operational processes and project management protocols to improve service delivery and asset utilization.
Regulatory Compliance:
Oversee compliance with applicable laws, statutory provisions, and regulatory guidelines.
Stakeholder Engagement:
Maintain strong relationships with the Ministry of Energy (Power Division), Planning Commission, SOEs, and private sector stakeholders.
Leadership Development:
Build a high-performing, merit-based management team, ensuring the implementation of competitive compensation and performance systems.
Governance Compliance:
Adhere to Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), Terms of Reference (ToRs), and ethical standards as defined by the Board.
Develop and present a 10-Year Strategic Plan and a 3-Year Business Plan, including investment, succession, and business continuity components.
Ensure grid operations comply with regulatory thresholds for system frequency and voltage.
Reduce system interruption duration and frequency in line with Grid Code specifications.
Lead implementation of a fully operational ERP system, and initiate cybersecurity framework deployment.
Achieve net operational profit growth targets as set by the Board.
Education:
Minimum: Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
Preferred: Additional qualifications in Business Administration, Finance, Project Management, or advanced engineering degrees.
Professional Experience:
Minimum of 20 years post-qualification professional and managerial experience.
At least 3 years in senior management (MD, CEO direct report, or public sector Grade 20+).
Added value for candidates with experience in grid asset management, power transmission/distribution, or consultancy in related areas.
Regulatory Requirement:
Must satisfy the "Fit and Proper Criteria" as per the State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Act, 2023.
Reporting Line: Reports directly to the Board of Directors.
Nationality: Open to Pakistani, Foreign, or Dual Nationals.
Contract Type: Three (3) years, extendable.
Compensation: Market-based salary and benefits package based on experience and regulatory guidelines.
