The School Education Department of Punjab has rectified its transfer policy to take better care of female teachers, particularly in cases of relocation due to marriage.
The new policy, announced on the 9th of May, 2025, enables the transfer of female teachers to the district of the proponent’s husband immediately after marriage—which is a significant deviation from the previous system that forbade such transfers.
e-Transfer Policy 2024 Now States:
-
Female teachers who are married can now request transfers to the district or workplace of their spouse once in their terms of service.
-
This new category has also been formally accepted under the list of “hardship” cases, acknowledging the fact that families need to be kept together.
There will no longer be transfers during specific rounds—transfers can now be done all year round.
For those female teachers requesting transfers from one division or district to another, the working district’s education office is required to mobilize the receiving district to issue a No Objection Certificate (NOC).
Procedures have been outlined to ensure this process is transparent, effective, and uniform.
Ranked Hardship Categories for Transfer Applications Include:
-
Divorced, widowed, or separated women
-
Differently abled individuals
-
Medical conditions
-
Widowhood
-
Single parents
-
Female teachers who want to shift after marriage
In the event of multiple candidates under the same category, priority will be given to those who are posted furthest from home.
