Faisalabad: Free laptops were distributed among 28 aspirants of Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) under Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme at the regional campus in Faisalabad.
The vice chancellor of Allama Iqbal Open University Dr Shahid Siddiqui was the chief guest of the ceremony. While addressing the ceremony, AIOU VC said that AIOU was designing new courses to meet the updated requirements in the educational zone.

He furthermore added that Allama Iqbal Open University had designed 26 new courses, besides arranging 100 research seminars, comprising of 26 research seminars during the last 3 years while its 14 research papers had been published up till now.
The vice chancellor also said that Allama Iqbal Open University enrolment had jumped up to 1.4 million, involving 40,000 aspirants from Faisalabad.
He also added that although High Education Commission was sponsoring Allama Iqbal Open University, the varsity was also arranging research projects of worth Rs0.2 million annually along with its own resources.
He highlighted that, “the varsity is also offering facility of online admission whereas the education is offered free to jail prisoners and special people.”

The vice chancellor said that Allama Iqbal Open University had registered approximately 1,000 prisoners from 97 jails of the country, whereas a special course of the duration of three months had also been introduced to deliver basic education of English, Urdu as well as Mathematics.
Afterwards, the vice chancellor of Allama Iqbal Open University distributed laptops among 28 aspirants.
