The University of Health Sciences (UHS) has officially announced the introduction of a PhD in Nursing and a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) – Evening Programme at the College of Nursing, Allama Iqbal Medical College (AIMC), which has now been formally integrated as a constituent college of UHS.

This historic communication was made by the Vice Chancellor UHS Prof Dr. Ahsan Waheed Rathore during a historic interaction with the entire 26 member faculty of the College of Nursing. The gathering marked the first formal interaction between UHS leadership and the college staff after the Punjab government issued the official merger notification on July 3.

Major Boost for Nursing Education in Pakistan

Calling the merger a game-changer for the future of nursing education, Prof Rathore emphasized that the incorporation of the College of Nursing into UHS will significantly uplift both the academic quality and professional status of nurses across the country.

“This step will not only raise the institutional profile of nursing education but also empower nursing professionals with enhanced recognition and career growth,” Prof Rathore stated.

He also reassured the faculty that they would soon benefit from professional perks and opportunities equivalent to UHS’s existing staff, ensuring a smooth and beneficial transition.

Strategic Vision and Academic Excellence

UHS leadership highlighted that the integration is aligned with its mission to implement the COMPASS curriculum, a comprehensive academic model aimed at elevating educational standards and delivering consistent quality assurance.

Prof Rathore affirmed UHS’s commitment to establishing academic excellence, promoting faculty development, and ensuring that new postgraduate programmes in nursing meet both national and international benchmarks.

The meeting was also attended by top university officials including:

  • Pro Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. Nadia Naseem

  • Registrar Ms. Kiran Fatima

The leadership expressed a collective vision to strengthen institutional capabilities, modernize nursing education, and expand research-based opportunities for faculty and students alike.
