Laptop distribution ceremony for IBA students

Karachi: Fifty admirable aspirants of Institute of Business Administration (IBA) were awarded laptops under the Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme. An IBA statement on Monday said that the ceremony to distribute laptops among students was organized at the Governor House.

President Mamnoon Hussain, was the chief guest of the ceremony. Governor Sindh and sponsor of IBA Karachi, Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan, chairperson of Higher Education Commission (HEC) Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Acting Dean & Director IBA Dr. Sayeed Ghani also attended the ceremony.

Dr. Sayeed Ghani, the Acting Dean & Director of IBA, welcomed President Mamnoon Hussain, Ishrat-ul-Ebad Governor Sindh & Patron IBA, HEC chairperson Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed as well as other great guests.

He congratulated the 50 aspirants of IBA, nominated from 316 students from various disciplines (PhD/MS programs in Maths & Computer Sciences and different Undergraduate programs), who were awarded with laptops completely on merit.

During his address he said that these steps taken by government will assist our youth in learning and will also establish a culture of research and since Haier is manufacturing these laptops in Lahore, it is a very liberal step for Pakistan and will help in strengthen the R&D culture.

He also urged the students to use these laptops for the progression of their studies and the country.

Dr. Sayeed also acknowledged President Mamnoon Hussain and BoG member IBA, Shahid Shafiq for making this event possible.

While addressing the audience, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed (chairperson HEC) said that it is an established fact that economic development of the country is determined by its intellectual capital. The significant results include that the percentage of higher education has increased from 2.6% of collage age students (17-21) to 8.26 % in last ten years.
