Lahore: A six-member delegation of Tianjin University of Technical Education (TUTE), China on Tuesday visited the Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) to wrap up the arrangements for the establishment of the University of Technical and Vocational Education (UTVE) in the provincial capital.

The Minister for Industries Sheikh Allaudin, Chairperson of Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority Irfan Qaiser Sheikh as well as the Vice President of TUTE Yan Bing were also present there.

While speaking on the event, the chairperson of TEVTA said that UTVE will be operational from October according to the task assigned by the Chief Minister of Punjab, Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif.

He said that at first the varsity will offer 6 to 9 degree programmes in various fields of study, comprising of BSc electrical engineering, civil engineering, automobile, information technology, architecture as well as textile designing to 2,200 aspirants.

He furthermore added that the land to set up the university will be obtained from TEVTA colleges located in Township and Raiwind.

"At the initial stage, a college would be selected and afterwards it would be given the status of the varsity in association along with TUTE."

The chairman said that the faculty will be employed according to the set criteria by the Higher Education Commission (HEC). Though, he said that the master trainers of TUTE will assist in setting up advanced laboratories and curriculum.

The Minister for Industries Sheikh Allaudin said that it was a remarkable day for Punjab. The varsity will provide technical as well as vocational education to the young generation Pakistan equal to international standards.

Formerly, the agreement to set up the UTVE was signed by chairperson of TEVTA Irfan Qaiser Sheikh during the visit of Chief Minister of Punjab Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif to China last month.
