Islamabad: As a part of its overseas expansion, Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has registered approximately 30 aspirants from the United States of America.

The officials of university in a statement on Sunday claimed that, the citizens of New York will be studying ‘Daras-e-Nazami’, a 4 years degree programme.

The university said that its Islamic studies programme has been getting grip in United States of America as well as other states, particularly the states in the Middle East and Turkey.

According to the given orders from the vice chancellor of Allama Iqbal Open University, Dr Shahid Siddiqui, away from offering the graduate programmes, Allama Iqbal Open University is also planning to introduce some post-graduate programmes for foreign Pakistanis in the near future.

Recently, the varsity has introduced a one and a half year B.Ed programme for overseas Pakistanis. Furthermore, the educational strategy for the foreign students has also been upgraded and currently it involves a provision for offering study material online besides arranging exams for these aspirants.

As per Dr Zahid Majeed from the Directorate of Overseas Education Programmes, there are almost over three hundred overseas students presetly registered along with the university.

These aspirants are living in KSA, Kuwait, Qatar, UAE, Oman, Bahrain as well as America.

Some Pakistanis in Spain, Italy, Sri Lanka, Finland as well as Iran have also showed their interest in registering in the distance-learning programmes of the university.
