B.Ed admissions in Karachi are run by each university separately. The program you apply for depends on your current qualification: a four-year B.Ed after Intermediate, entry into semester 5 after an Associate Degree in Education (ADE), a 2.5-year route after a 14-year degree, or a 1.5-year route after a 16-year degree. This page explains which route fits you, lists Karachi universities that have offered B.Ed, and shows what to check before you apply.
Admission notices change frequently. At the time of writing, Iqra University Karachi’s B.Ed admission notice is the most recent B.Ed notice listed on Ilmkidunya for Karachi. For other universities, use the table below as a starting point and confirm dates on the university’s own admission portal.
The Higher Education Commission (HEC) revised its teacher education roadmap in January 2023. These are the main routes it describes. Universities may add their own conditions, so read each prospectus.
| Your qualification | Typical B.Ed route | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Intermediate (12 years) | Four-year B.Ed | Full-time degree, usually 8 semesters |
| ADE in Education | Enter semester 5 of the four-year B.Ed | Saves the first two years |
| ADE in another subject, or an old two-year BA/BSc | Semester 5 after a bridging semester | HEC describes 15–18 credit hours of deficiency courses, set by the university |
| 14-year degree | 2.5-year B.Ed | Ziauddin University describes this as a bridging semester followed by two years |
| 16-year degree (BS, MA, MSc, MBBS, etc.) | 1.5-year B.Ed | HEC describes 45–54 credit hours of coursework |
Since Fall 2023, HEC says the nomenclature is simply “Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.)”. You will still see “B.Ed (Hons)” on some university pages, so don’t treat it as a different degree. For the full eligibility conditions, see the B.Ed eligibility criteria page.
The table lists programs found on university pages, admission notices and listing sites. “Last deadline found” is not a current deadline. It shows the most recent date we found so you can judge when a university usually admits. Always confirm the current cycle.
| University | Program formats found | Last deadline / notice found |
|---|---|---|
| University of Karachi | B.Ed (Hons), entrance-test based | Notice posted 8 Oct 2025; test on 25 Oct 2025 |
| Ziauddin University | Four-year, 2.5-year, 1.5-year, and after-ADE routes; in-service evening option | Check Ziauddin’s current notice |
| Benazir Bhutto Shaheed University, Lyari | B.Ed 1.5/2.5 years | 17 Nov 2025 |
| Jinnah University for Women | B.Ed (Hons), four years | 15 Oct 2025 |
| Hamdard University | B.Ed 1.5–2.5 years | 15 Mar 2025 |
| Aga Khan University | B.Ed, four years | 10 Feb 2026 |
| Iqra University | Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) | Notice listed 9 Oct 2026 |
| SZABIST Karachi | B.Ed notices listed in mid-2025 | Last dates in July 2025 |
| Metropolitan University Karachi | B.Ed 1.5/2.5/4 years (older listing) | Feb 2022; confirm it is still offered |
Sindh Madressatul Islam University and Mohammad Ali Jinnah University also appear in Karachi education listings. Check their portals for B.Ed or BS Education availability. Our BS Education admissions in Karachi page covers the related four-year degree.
Ziauddin University’s College of Education describes an in-service route for postgraduate teachers, with evening classes (2:30–5:30 pm, five days a week) over three semesters and 54 credits. This is the university’s own description, so confirm whether it is open in the current intake.
There is no single B.Ed admission calendar for the city. The University of Karachi’s last published cycle gives a useful picture. Its notice appeared in early October, applications closed within days, and the entrance test followed within a few weeks. Other universities list deadlines at different times of the year, including mid-year (SZABIST, July 2025) and late in the year (Benazir Bhutto Shaheed University, November 2025).
Ilmkidunya’s national B.Ed admissions page notes that universities usually admit in a spring cycle starting around January and a fall cycle starting around August. Treat that as a general pattern, not a promise.Short application windows are a real risk. A KU-style notice can give only a few days, so keep your documents ready before the notice appears.
Eligibility follows your route (see the table above), but each university sets its own conditions. For example, the University of Karachi’s notice says admission is based on an entrance test, with a minimum qualifying mark of 50%, and that eligibility is subject to the department’s requirements in its prospectus. Applications went through its online admission portal.
Other universities may use interviews, merit lists or their own tests. Check the prospectus for the route you want. Past merit lists can help you judge competitiveness, but they don’t guarantee future cut-offs.
Fees vary by university, route and whether the program runs in the morning or evening. Be careful with figures on listing sites. They often don’t say whether the amount is per semester, per year or for the whole program. A low number for a four-year program and a high number for a 1.5-year program are not comparable until you know the basis.
Confirm the fee schedule on the university’s website or prospectus, and check the B.Ed fee structure page for reference.
The National Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (NACTE) publishes lists of accredited and under-process teacher education programs, and a list of approved program names, including B.Ed (1.5 Years), B.Ed (2.5 Years) and B.Ed (Hons) Elementary (4 Year). Before paying fees, check that your chosen program appears there, and confirm the university’s HEC recognition.
It depends on your route. Intermediate graduates apply for the four-year B.Ed, ADE holders can enter semester 5, holders of a 14-year degree use the 2.5-year route, and 16-year graduates use the 1.5-year route. Each university sets its own final conditions, so read its prospectus.
HEC’s roadmap keeps a 1.5-year route for graduates with 16 years of education, with 45–54 credit hours of coursework. Whether a university runs it in a given intake varies, so confirm with the university.
Programs have been listed at the University of Karachi, Ziauddin University, Benazir Bhutto Shaheed University, Jinnah University for Women, Hamdard University, Aga Khan University, Iqra University and SZABIST, among others. Availability changes by year, so check each current notice.
There is no single date. The University of Karachi’s last published notice appeared in early October with a test later that month. Other universities publish at different times of the year.
Some universities use one. The University of Karachi’s notice describes an entrance test with a 50% minimum qualifying mark. Other universities may use different selection methods.
Ziauddin University describes an in-service route with evening classes for postgraduate teachers. Check with the university whether it is open for the current intake.
HEC says the nomenclature for teacher education degrees is “Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.)” from Fall 2023. Older names still appear on some university pages.
Check that the university is HEC-recognised and that the program appears in NACTE’s lists of accredited or under-process teacher education programs.
Fees vary by university and route. Listing sites often don’t say whether a figure is per semester, per year or for the whole program, so confirm the basis in the university’s official fee schedule.
