Which B.Ed Route Fits Your Qualification?

Your last qualification decides your route. The Higher Education Commission (HEC) set the framework in its Revised Teacher Education Roadmap. Since Fall 2023, the degree is simply named "Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.)". Strands such as elementary or early childhood appear on the transcript, not the degree title.

If you have Your route What to know
FA, FSc, I.Com or A-levels (12 years) 4-year B.Ed Each university sets its own cut-off. 45 to 50% is a commonly cited range, so read the prospectus.
Associate Degree in Education (ADE) 4-year B.Ed, from the 5th semester HEC allows ADE holders to enter the third year.
Associate degree in another subject, or the old 2-year BA/BSc 4-year B.Ed, from the 5th semester The university may require additional or bridging courses.
14 years of education B.Ed 2.5 years Some institutions also use a test or interview.
16 years (BS, MA or MSc) in a non-education subject B.Ed 1.5 years HEC describes this as 45 to 54 credit hours of coursework.
MA Education, M.Ed or BS Education No separate B.Ed needed for employment or further study HEC treats these as equivalent.

For a fuller breakdown, see B.Ed eligibility criteria in Pakistan.

B.Ed Programmes by Institution

Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU)

AIOU is a distance-learning university based in Islamabad. Its Autumn 2026 schedule included B.Ed programmes of 1.5, 2.5 and 4 years. You apply online through the AIOU admission portal, and the closing date for Autumn 2026 has passed. AIOU opens admissions twice a year, so watch aiou.edu.pk for the next announcement.

Federal College of Education (FCE), H-9

FCE's notice dated 30 August 2026 lists a 1.5-year B.Ed for candidates with 16 years of education. It also lists BS Education for the 5th to 8th semesters for candidates with 14 years of education, and a 4-year Science Education programme after FSc. The notice mentions specialisations including elementary, inclusive, STEM, Islamic and early childhood education. It also names a Rs 1,500 processing fee. For costs, see the college's fee structure page.

International Islamic University (IIUI)

IIUI's notice for session 2026 listed B.Ed, B.Ed (Hons) Elementary, ADE and BS Education among its undergraduate programmes. Its last date was 31 December 2025. See the IIUI admission page for updates.

NUML, Abasyn and Preston

NUML lists a 4-year B.Ed. Abasyn University Islamabad has posted a Bachelor of Education notice this year.Preston University is listed for B.Ed (Hons) in 1.5 and 2.5-year routes. Always confirm the programme and its approval status with the university itself.

B.Ed Fees in Islamabad

Fees vary by university, programme and semester, and the figures below come from third-party listings. Treat them as indicative, not final.

  • AIOU: listings show different figures (Rs 23,980 for B.Ed (Hons) 4-year on Eduvision, and about Rs 29,990 per semester on another site). AIOU's own fee and eligibility document for your semester is the reliable source.
  • NUML: Rs 53,910 listed for the B.Ed 4-year programme.

For other colleges, see the B.Ed fee structure page.

How to Apply for B.Ed in Islamabad

  1. Match your qualification to a route using the table above.
  2. Read the prospectus for your intake. Marks, subject conditions and deadlines change each session.
  3. Apply through the institution's official portal or form. For AIOU, that is the online admission system.
  4. Prepare your documents. Typically these are academic transcripts, CNIC or B-form and photographs, but the prospectus is the final list.
  5. Prepare for a test or interview if the university requires one.
  6. Watch the merit lists and pay the fee only after your selection.

Check These Before You Pay

First, confirm that the programme is HEC-recognised and follows a semester system. In a notification dated 25 September 2026, HEC reportedly directed institutions to stop new admissions in annual and private-mode associate degree programmes. If you are choosing an ADE route, ask the institution how its programme complies.

Second, be careful with any "1-year B.Ed". HEC's teacher-education framework recognises the 4-year, 2.5-year and 1.5-year routes, and a 1-year B.Ed is not among them.Third, confirm that your final degree will be accepted for the jobs or further study you want. See careers after B.Ed and the B.Ed subjects you will study.
