An MPhil in Management is a research-focused postgraduate degree for students with 16 years of education. Most programs run for two years and combine coursework with a thesis. Pakistani universities follow the HEC two-year norm, with up to four years allowed in total, and usually ask for a GAT-General score of at least 50%. It is built for people aiming at a PhD, teaching or research, not for those who want a purely professional MBA-style degree.
An MPhil in Management trains you to study how organizations work, rather than only how to run one. You take advanced coursework in strategy, leadership, research methods and your chosen area, then write a thesis.
The difference from an MBA is worth spelling out. One university describes its MPhil as a pre-doctoral degree focused on analytical and research skills, while an MBA applies existing business practice. If you want to manage a team next year, an MBA fits. If you want to publish, lecture or earn a PhD, the MPhil fits.
| Detail | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Duration | Two years is the standard; the University of the Punjab allows 1.5 to 4 years to finish |
| Structure | Two semesters of coursework (24 credit hours), then two semesters of research (6 credit hours) at PU |
| Entry requirement | 16 years of education in a relevant field |
| Entry test | GAT-General in most universities |

The rules vary a little by university. The overall pattern is consistent, and our detailed MPhil eligibility criteria page covers the general HEC position.
You need a 16-year degree in management, business or a closely related field. PU’s Institute of Administrative Sciences asks for a relevant master’s or a four-year BS in management or equivalent. Pak-AIMS accepts degrees such as M.Com, BBA, B.Com (Hons) and MPA, with at least 2.0 CGPA or 60%. NUML asks for 2.5 out of 4.0 CGPA, or 50% marks under the annual system.
Pak-AIMS requires a GAT-General score of at least 50%. NUML accepts a valid GRE International or NTS GAT-General score, and some applicants must also pass its own written GAT-General component. Check which test your target university accepts before you register for one.
This table lists only programs I could verify from official or university pages.

“Management” is an umbrella. Where you specialize shapes your thesis, your supervisor and your career.
Both usually sit inside a management sciences program instead of standing alone. Pak-AIMS lists human resource management among its tracks, and NUML does the same. For MPhil in business management, the usual route is an MPhil in Business Administration, such as the PU program or the Lahore Leads University program.
Supply chain is offered as a specialization instead of a separate degree. Pak-AIMS includes operations and supply chain management in its MPhil, and NUML lists supply chain management among its management sciences areas. PU’s Spring 2026 admission notice also lists supply chain management among its business faculty programs, so check the current notice for the exact level and campus.
Here the honest answer is that I could not find an MPhil carrying these names. What exists is master-level study. Riphah offers an MS in Healthcare Management with Hospital Management and Public Health specializations, over 1.5 years and 36 credit hours. Aga Khan University started its HEC-recognised MS in Healthcare Management with a cohort that began in 2025. The University of Health Sciences, Lahore lists a one-year Master of Hospital Management. If a university advertises an “MPhil in hospital management”, ask for its HEC recognition and thesis requirement in writing.
This is the best-known sector-specific option. LUMS runs it as a two-year, 36-credit program in its School of Education, made up of 27 credits of coursework and 9 credits of practicum. Applicants need at least 16 years of education, and LUMS also offers a weekend track for working professionals. Merit scholarships awarded at admission stay in force for the full two years, provided the student keeps a CGPA of 3.0 or above. For the program’s own entry rules, use the official LUMS admissions page.
Fees differ sharply between public and private universities, and they change each intake. As one real example, a Lahore private university lists a total package of Rs 376,500 over four semesters, with Rs 28,500 due at admission and the rest paid in installments. At the top end, a third-party portal puts LUMS ELM tuition at about Rs 850,720 per year, which is an indicative figure, not an official one. Public-sector programs such as PU’s are usually cheaper, but confirm the current figure on the university’s own notice. Our MPhil fee structure page tracks university-wise figures.
The degree opens three main paths.
Academia is the clearest. PU says its MPhil graduates can go on to a PhD at home or abroad, or take faculty and research positions. The same source also points to industry and public or private research organizations.Consultancy and corporate strategy are the second path. One program names management, financial and research consulting, and corporate strategy roles in large conglomerates.
The third is sector leadership, where the specialization pays off directly: education reform management after LUMS ELM, or hospital administration after a healthcare management degree.
Start by checking the intake: most universities admit in Fall and Spring. Match your degree to the eligibility rules above, register for the right entry test, and keep your transcripts and CGPA ready. Then watch the university’s admission notice for the form and last date, since these shift every cycle. Finally, prepare a short research idea. Interviews for research degrees often probe it, so a clear topic helps you stand out.
It is a research-oriented postgraduate degree in management, usually two years long, combining coursework with a thesis. It prepares students for a PhD, teaching, research or consultancy.
Two years is the standard HEC-aligned duration. Universities such as PU allow a longer maximum period of up to four years to finish the thesis.
You need 16 years of education in a relevant field, a minimum CGPA or percentage set by the university, and usually a GAT-General score of at least 50%. Exact cutoffs differ between universities.
I could not verify an MPhil under those names. Master-level options exist, such as Riphah’s MS in Healthcare Management, AKU’s MS in Healthcare Management and UHS’s Master of Hospital Management. Confirm HEC recognition before applying.
Yes, if your BBA is a 16-year degree and you meet the CGPA and test requirements. Pak-AIMS, for example, lists BBA among accepted degrees.
Most graduates move to a PhD, lectureship or research roles. Others join consultancy firms, corporate strategy teams or sector-specific management roles.
