LAW GRADUATE ASSESSMENT TEST (Law-GAT)

For Eligibility to Seek Enrolment to the Bar as an Advocate

1. Overview

The Education Testing Council (ETC) under the Higher Education Commission (HEC) will conduct the Law Graduate Assessment Test (Law-GAT). This test is mandatory for law graduates seeking enrolment to the Bar as an Advocate in Pakistan.

2. Who Can Apply?

Description:

Graduates intending to practice law in Pakistan and register with the Pakistan Bar Council.

Eligibility Criteria:

Completion of Bachelor's Degree in Law (LLB) or equivalent

Degree must be from a HEC/PBC-recognized local or foreign university

3. Curriculum and Test Pattern

Test Format:

The test will consist of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)

4. Qualifying Score & Validity

Qualifying Marks:

Minimum score of 50 out of 100 is required to pass

Test Frequency:

The Law-GAT is conducted quarterly in major cities of Pakistan

Online Registration:

Verify Personal Details:

Ensure accuracy of Name, CNIC, Email, Mobile Number, etc.

CNIC mismatch will disqualify the candidate

Upload Photograph:

A recent passport-size photo with white or blue background is required

Correct CNIC Requirement:

Do not use the CNIC of parents, siblings, or others

Even one-digit errors will lead to disqualification

Test Fee Payment:

Fee must be paid through Link/TBill Invoice Payment Services using a generated consumer number

After payment, click “Verify Online Payment” on ETC Dashboard

The consumer number is valid until the registration deadline

Fee is non-refundable and non-transferable

Test Centre Selection:

Select your Test Centre carefully (from available options)

Centre cannot be changed after registration

ETC reserves the right to reassign a centre if fewer than 250 candidates register at a location

Final Submission:

Complete all fields and click SUBMIT

Applications left in SAVE/INCOMPLETE mode will not be considered

Roll Number Slips:

Download from ?? http://etc.hec.gov.pk

Slips will also be emailed to registered candidates one week before the test

Email/SMS Notifications:

Provide a valid email and mobile number

SMS may not be delivered if number was ported to another network – check your email

7. On Test Day

Bring:

Printout of Roll Number Slip

Original CNIC/Passport

8. Ineligibility Criteria

The following candidates are not eligible to apply:

Already qualified the Law-GAT

Have attempted the test seven (07) times

Currently enrolled in LLB or equivalent degree

9. Other Requirements / Conditions

A minimum 50% score is required to pass

Candidates must also fulfill Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) regulations for enrolment

Maximum of 07 attempts allowed per candidate

Electronic devices (phones, calculators, recorders, etc.) are strictly prohibited in the Test Centre

Sharing images of the question paper is a punishable offence under ETC policy
