Islamabad: According to the latest universities ranking issued by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU), Islamabad is among the top 500 universities in the world.

The rankings list total four Pakistani universities among the top 1,000 universities across the world.

Quaid-e-Azam University had overtaken leave behind large number of universities to break into the top 500 this year, improving its ranking by 281 positions, from 746 to 465 this year.

In doing so, the varsity passed by the COMSATS Institute of Information technology (626 last year and 642 this year) while the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) (721 last year and 726 this year).

The QAU university located in Islamabad found itself slot in among Qatar University from the Gulf country as swell as the Reykjavik University of Iceland.

The COMSATS University, which slipped 16 positions, from 626 last year to 642 this year, found itself slot between the Comenius University of Bratislava and Coventry University in United Kingdom.

NUST, which slipped 4 ranking positions this year, was slot in between the National University of Science and Technology of Russia and the National Sun Yat-Sen University in Taiwan.

The University of Agriculture in Faisalabad, the last Pakistani university in the list of top 1000 universities year, was the only one which maintained its position in the rankings, standing at 803. The university found itself positioned among the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poland and the Ain Shams University Egypt.

As compared to the ranking of last year (ranking out of 981 international universities) when just 7 universities of Pakistan were included in the overall rankings, this year almost ten universities of Pakistan were included in the rankings.

The varsities included the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences in Lahore, the PMAS Arid Agriculture University in Rawalpindi, the University of Peshawar, the University of Lahore, the GCU Lahore As well as BZU Multan.

The University of Karachi, which was listed at 868 last year, was weirdly omitted from the ranking list of last year.

From among the region, China had a massive 60 universities among the list of top one thousand universities, including seven in the top 300 universities and two in the top 100 universities.

On the other hand, India lists 30 varsities in the top 1,000 of which one is the top 300, Indian Institute of Science.

Iran lists 14 best universities in the top 1,000, of which one is in the top 500 universities named Babol Noshirvani University of Technology.

Oxford University had topped the ranking list for the first time in fourteen years.
