On Sunday, President Arif Alvi has signed on Pakistan Medical Commission Ordinance, 2019. President Arif Alvi has enforced this ordinance that requires dissolution of PMDC. To implement on the ordinance on directives of the president, the offices of PMDC have been shut down temporarily leaving doctors in state of confusion. A new organization named Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) will be established in place of PMDC which will take over all its functions.
Public Notification on New Ordinance Is Expected to Announced Today
The Ministry of National Health Services (NHS) has taken possession of PMDC building on Sunday. The 220 employees of PMDC have been informed that the offices of PMDC will remain closed for one week. The offices are shut down to gather all the crucial documents and assets of PMDC, NHS notified employees. As the employees of PMDC have referred this action as ‘undemocratic’ and appealed to the political parties to participate in resolving this issue.
A New Establishment PMC Will Take Over PMDC Functions: NHS Official Statement
As per the notification, PMC will work as corporate body of the Secretariat and will take over all the functions of PMDC. It will issue licensing to medical and dental academic institutions of Pakistan under regulations of new ordinance. PMC will ensure the standards of education reach par excellence and improvement will be made. Furthermore, PMC will evaluate training, qualification level and education quality of the medical and dental academic institutions. PMC will consist of three entities:
The Medical and Dental Council
The National Medical and Dental Academic Board
The National Medical Authorit
A formal notification describing the regulations of the new ordinance is expected to be announced today. PMC will be starting its functions from next week, NHS notification stated.
