Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) in Pakistan is a 5 year professional degree that equips students to design buildings, spaces and urban environments based on the local regulatory, cultural and climatic requirements. The standards according to which successful programs should be organized are associated with the Pakistan Council of Architects and Town Planners (PCATP); accreditation is important as only graduates of accredited programs can devote professional licensing and independent practice after the necessary experience and passing the licensing exam. The curriculum ensures the integration of designs studio projects, technical classes (structures, construction, services) with history/theory programs and professional practice modules to ensure students graduate with creative and practical skills.

A majority of Pakistani universities have a requirement of 12 years of education with a science/mathematics focus, in typical form of FSc (Pre-Engineering), A-Levels with Mathematics, or some other equivalent qualification, and with an aggregate that is generally between 50%-60%, also depending on the university. There are also universities that accept DAE (with certain percentages or with other foreign qualifications) but they also require mathematics as a subject on intermediate/A-level. Look at the official prospectus of each university since minimum requirements and acceptable equivalencies are different in each institution.
The process of admission is typically in phases, including: online application, academic documents, and an entry/aptitude test (which may be administered by the university itself or a central testing agency), and usually in many cases a drawing or portfolio review and an interview. Entry tests usually involve mathematics, general aptitude and simple spatial/visual reasoning, a pass level is usually established (50% is often used) in the test before moving on to the merit lists or interviews. Certain schools admit SAT scores or similar in lieu of internalized tests provided they have achieved pre-determined score requirements. Check the admission timetable of every university and test dates and application periods.
The majority of architecture schools in Pakistan receive students once a year, often at the start of a fall/session, a few of the more privatized or hybrid universities may have multiple intakes or evening/self-finance divisions. Admission size varies greatly, with large state colleges having fixed seat numbers, and with reserved spots (e.g. domicile area, special needs, disadvantaged groups, etc.) but with private schools advertising the number of seats per semester on their admissions pages. Applicants must make reference to university admission notices, as to the specific seat numbers and reserved categories, and any staggered (phase-wise) lists.
To get B.Arch admission merit is typically calculated by a weighted average of intermediate (12-year) marks and the performance in the entry test. The most common weightsings you will come across are 60% to 70% weight to the intermediate certificate and 30% to 40% weight to the entry test or combined test and portfolio score, but many universities have their own formulae and qualifying cutoffs. In cases where portfolios or drawing tests are involved, a good visual submission will have a major impact on the competitive mark of an applicant. The ratios should always be checked on the university official admission page since the cutoffs and eligibility marks may vary with the years.
