PESHAWAR: A group of electrical engineering students studying at CECOS University of Information Technology and Emerging Sciences designed a solar-powered environment-friendly car which can run up to 80 kilometer per hour. The students created the car as part of their final project.

The main aim behind the car is that according to the recent report by World Health Organization (WHO), Peshawar is the second most air polluted city in the world. So the car will help in reducing the air pollution from the city.

The solar panel installed on the car would provide adequate energy to the car so that the car could go from Gul Bahar area to Hayatabad without needing any CNG or petrol. The car can run up to 25 kilometers on a fully charged battery. The students have also installed a plug-in charging port in the car and everyone can charge the car at their home or at any other place where electricity is available.

One of the student from the team, Ibrarullah, said that the use of fossil fuels as a source of energy is also generating climatic changes, thus leading to increase in the temperature of earth. He further added that the government should support and encourage such projects like ours and make use of renewable energy instead of using those fossil fuels which are the major cause of carbon emission in the environment.

The car is been supported by an android application. Assistant professor at CECOS University, Khalid Rehman, said that the car starts with an android app and the solar panel and window adjustment is also been done through it. He also said that if government would support the students then they could easily introduce this car for commercial use in future.
